Blood was thicker than water.

That was the phrase the Tsuyuri clan always used. Blood was everything in the clan-whether it was spilled or coursing through your veins.

No matter what, family was family. You had to obey them, no matter what. It was drilled into Hanako's head since she left the womb.

There was usually no such thing as adoption in the clan. If a child's parents died, and if the child had no particular talent, the child would go into the ground with them.

Blood is blood. Where the parents go, the children follow.

Hanako would only come to know how abnormal this was when she grew older and read the small information gathered on the Tsuyuri clan. When she was still in that underground place, she was blind to everyone else- the one she had to focus on and fear was her parents.

It was within every instinct in Hanako to obey them, as long as they shared blood.

So, it was probably a relief that in her current life, at least for the most of it, that she didn't have any biological parents.

Even if her adoptive mom was dead-beat, it felt good to be ignored, even if Hanako didn't ignore her.

Truth be told, Hanako was always curious on why Remi Sato aould adopt a child, so she did research, and she found more things than she expected.

But moving on, Remi Sato was never a great parent. Never caring or reliable.

Which was why it was a shock for Hanako to see her walking into her hospital ward.

Remi shifted from one foot to another, alternating between hands to hold her bag.

A couple days ago....

"Hanako has been what?"

"My apologies, ma'am. Your ward has been abducted by villains. Rest assured that all available resources have been deployed-"

Remi hung up.

Hanako has been what? Why on earth- why her? What did she do to deserve this?

Remi blinked as she sat alone in the house. It had always felt miserable, but right then, it felt even more colder and emptier.
