2 weeks later - Clary's POV
Ever since that day at Jace's house, we have been closer than we were ever before. He hasn't officially asked me to be his girlfriend, which kind of surprises me. I feel like he might be soon. We act like so much of a couple, it's crazy.
As I got up to go to school today, I put on a pair of dark wash jeans, a plain white t-shirt, and a flannel. These kind of outfits are my life and they are so comfortable. Anyways, that's besides the point. I grabbed an apple and granola bar for my breakfast as I heard my door bell ring. I assumed it was Jace, so I gladly opened the door.
"Hey Jace-" I cut myself off when I saw it wasn't Jace. It was that man he was talking with that day. My heart started racing, fear taking over me as I looked at this man. Based off of the conversation I heard, and what Jace has told me, I knew exactly what he's capable of.
"Hello Clary. How are you this morning?" he asked me with a grin, which is quite a creepy grin.
"I'm...I'm okay I guess," I said quietly, hoping that he couldn't hear the fear in my voice.
"Great, that's good to hear because I need you in good health," he said while he rubbed his hands together.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked him, bewildered. He didn't answer my question, and he didn't have to. The grin was wiped off of his face as he pulled a .22 millimeter gun out of the waistband of his jeans.
"You're coming with me, or you die," he said, and I quickly nod as tears brim my eyes. I slowly walk toward him, and he motions me to walk out of the house and to his car. As I walk out, the man still inside and out of sight, I can see Jace's car pulling up to the car into my driveway. He must've recognized the car, because when he got out of his car he looked worried and angry at the same time.
Jace was about to speak but I just shook my head as the man came into view and so did the gun.
"Well well well...if it isn't Jace. Coming to save the day again I see? Too late. If she doesn't come with me, she dies," he said and I could hear the smirk in his voice.
What was I going to do?
Jace's POV
These past 2 weeks have been absolutely amazing. Clary and I have been closer than ever and it's amazing. I haven't asked her to be my girlfriend yet, but I'm going to this morning. I had what I was going to say and everything. I'm so nervous, yet so excited.
I got into my car, and started the short drive to Clary's house. As I was driving, I was trying to push the nerves away. I knew if they got the best of me, then I would chicken out and not do it. I pulled into her driveway, and I knew something was immediately wrong.
Chris's car was in her driveway, and I quickly parked, killed the engine, and got out of my car.
"Well well well...if it isn't Jace. Coming to save the day again I see? Too late. If she doesn't come with me, she dies," he said.
"Why do you want her in the first place Chris? She has nothing to do with any of this!" I exclaimed, throwing my hands in the air in frustration.
"She is only involved because of you! I've told you this countless of times. You know what happens when you try and leave, and I'm nt explaining it anymore," he yelled, grabbing Clary's arm and pulling her into his chest. He placed the gun against her head and Clary started to cry.
"Whatever you do, don't hurt her. I'll do whatever you want just don't hurt her," I said, panic rising in my voice.
"Whatever I want? I want you back in the gang. You come back, and she lives and we won't come after her," Chris said. I knew that he was going to ask that, but I had really hoped he'd ask for something else. Maybe like money or drugs or women, but not this. Was I ready to go back to this life for Clary? Was I really prepared to go back into this life?
"I'll do it."
