Clary's POV

I can't believe what just happened. My childhood best friend has returned after 7 years of absence. No, I'm not mad at him. I don't know why he moved away, but I want to find out. Not just because I'm curious (although I am curious a little), but I just want to know what's been going on. He seems really hurt and angry. I want to know why.

That's all I can seem to think about as I sit on my bed, trying to read. My thoughts of Jace keep me distracted from my book. I sigh, trying to rid my mind of Jace. Even when I'm with friends, or in a class something always leads to Jace. Always. That word will forever have a different meaning to me now I swear.

After what seems like forever, finally riding my thoughts of him, my phone buzzes on my bed side table, making me jump. I grab my phone, setting my book down next to me. I see it's my friend Maddie and a small smile makes its way onto my lips.

Maddie: Hey! What's up?:)

Me: Just reading and chilling out on my bed as usual. What's up with you?

Maddie: Oh nothing...

Me: Something's up..what is it?

Maddie: It's that new guy I've seen you talking with. Jace, right? Is there something going on that I dont know about? ;)

Me: No no! Maddie there's nothing like that going on. I actually knew him when I was younger. He was my best friend, until he moved away 7 years ago. Now he's back.

Maddie: All right! Calm down it was just a question. I guess you're happy he's back?

Me: Well...I may or may not have accused him of stalking me and then not remember he was my best friend and only thought of him as a stranger....

Maddie: WHAT!?

I was about to reply to her when I heard a quiet clanking noise against my window. Figuring it was nothing, I left it alone. But I kept on hearing it again and again. Sighing to myself, I got out of my comfy bed and walked over to my window. I pulled back to curtains and opened my window to discover Jace was throwing rocks at my window. How cliché.

"Jace? What are you doing here so late?" I said, confusion clear in my voice. What did he want at such  a late hour?

"Oh, hey. I didn't think you'd open up. I just wanted to come inside and talk with you," he said as he scratched the side of his neck. He looked and sounded really nervous.

I sighed quietly to myself before starting to speak. "All right, c'mon in," I said as I left the window and curtains open, walking over to my closet. I put some pajama pants on, realizing I only ad underwear on under my big shirt. This was going to be interesting...

"You don't have to cover up just for me," he said, making me jump slightly, not hearing him come inside.

"Well we aren't 10 anymore," I said quietly before I sloppily put my hair up in a bun. "What did you want to talk about?" I asked.

"Right. I wanted to apologize for what I said earlier today. I shouldn't have yelled like that, or said those things. Today has been a bit stressful. I didn't mean the things I said," he spoke, sounding very genuine.

"It's okay. I forgive you. It's just been a long time and you look so much different than you did back then. You're very different than back when we were kids. Plus, you never contacted me after the first couple months of you being gone," I said, trying to defend my case of forgetting him. "But since you said it, I remember you and all of the memories we had," I finished.

"I totally understand. All I want is to much this right and become friends again," he said with a small smile.

I smiled right back at him as I nodded my head slowly. "I would love a fresh start. I've missed you and all of the fun times we had together," I said genuinely.

"Good," he said as he stepped closer to me. He wrapped his arms around my smaller frame, pulling me into his chest. I hugged him back, resting my head against his chest. I could hear his heart beating, and it was beating very quickly.

"Are you okay? Your heart is beating really quickly," I asked, my voice muffled slightly by our hug.

"Yeah I'm fine. Just really happy that we're friends again," he said before pulling back slightly from our hug. His hand went up to the top of my head, undoing the bun and letting my hair fall against my shoulders and back.

"I liked it in the bun," I said, a pout forming on my lips.

"I like it better down," he whispered, the same hand moving to my cheek, his thumb running over the apple of my cheek.

"What are you doing?" I asked him quietly as his forehead came down to mine.

"What I've wanted to do for a very long time," he whispered as his lips came ever so closer to mine.

What is he doing...
