Y/N sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the wall in front of her, the silence in her room almost suffocating. It had been two days since she had that electrifying moment with Jirou, and it replayed in her mind like a favorite song on repeat. She felt the weight of her boyfriend's presence more heavily now, each awkward conversation and forced laugh amplifying the realization that something fundamental had shifted in her heart.
She had tried to reach out to her boyfriend since their last encounter, desperate to patch things up, to pretend everything was fine. They had been together for years, long before she even met Jirou, and yet, now she found herself questioning everything.
"Maybe it's just a phase," she told herself, glancing at her phone. There was a message from her boyfriend asking her to meet him in the common room. The request felt burdensome, like a weight pressing down on her chest, but she pushed herself to respond.
"Sure. Be there in a few."
As Y/N made her way to the common room, her mind was clouded with thoughts of Jirou. Every time she saw her, the chemistry between them felt undeniable, but she knew it was wrong to indulge in these feelings while still in a relationship. Jirou deserved someone who could fully reciprocate her affections, someone unencumbered by doubts and baggage.
When she arrived, her boyfriend was already seated on one of the couches, scrolling through his phone. He looked up when he saw her, offering a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "Hey, thanks for coming," he said, setting his phone down.
"Yeah, of course," Y/N replied, forcing a smile in return as she sat down across from him. "What's up?"
"I just wanted to talk," he said, his tone casual, but Y/N could sense the underlying tension. "I feel like we haven't really spent time together lately."
"I know, I've been busy with school and stuff," Y/N replied, her stomach twisting at the thought of how much time she'd spent with Jirou instead.
"School's important, but I think we need to work on us too," he said, leaning forward slightly. "I don't want to lose what we have."
Y/N's heart sank. "I don't want to lose us either, but it feels like we're... drifting apart," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Drifting?" he repeated, frowning. "What do you mean?"
"I just feel like we're not as close as we used to be," Y/N said, avoiding his gaze. "Things have been different lately."
"Different how?" he pressed, the hurt in his eyes making her chest tighten.
Y/N hesitated, unsure if she could articulate the truth without causing pain. "I don't know. Maybe we're just going through a rough patch."
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "You know I care about you, right? I want to make this work, but I need you to meet me halfway."
