The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the hallway as Y/N made her way to her locker. She felt a growing sense of dread in her chest, her heart heavy with the weight of her decisions. Each day with Jirou felt like a small rebellion, an exhilarating escape from the reality of her crumbling relationship with Akashi. But today was different. Y/N could sense the tension in the air, a storm brewing on the horizon.
As she turned the corner to head to her classes, she nearly collided with Akashi. He stood there, his brows knitted together in concern. "Y/N, can we talk?"
"Um, sure," Y/N said, forcing a smile even as her stomach twisted in knots.
They moved to a quieter corner of the school, away from the eyes of others. The moment felt heavy, a pressure building between them that Y/N couldn't ignore. Akashi crossed his arms, his posture tense. "You've been distant lately. Is everything okay?"
Y/N's heart raced. She couldn't hide the truth any longer, but the thought of admitting it made her feel sick. "I-"
"Y/N, just tell me. I can handle it," he urged, his voice steady but laced with a hint of vulnerability.
Taking a deep breath, Y/N felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes. "I'm sorry, Akashi. I've been trying to figure things out, but I can't keep lying."
His expression shifted, concern turning to apprehension. "Lying about what?"
"I've fallen for someone else," she confessed, her voice trembling. The weight of her admission hung in the air, each word a dagger that pierced through the silence. "It's Jirou."
Akashi's face fell, a mix of shock and hurt flooding his features. "Jirou? You mean the girl in your class?"
Y/N nodded, tears spilling down her cheeks. "I didn't mean for it to happen. I tried to ignore it, but I can't anymore."
"Is that why you've been so distant?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "Why you've been avoiding me?"
"I didn't want to hurt you," she admitted, her heart breaking with each word. "But I know it's not fair to either of us to stay in this relationship when my heart is somewhere else."
Akashi ran a hand through his hair, frustration mingling with heartbreak. "So, that's it? You're just going to throw everything away? What about all the memories we've shared? The plans we made?"
Y/N's throat tightened. "I know, and I'm so sorry. I didn't want to hurt you. But I can't be with you when I feel this way about someone else."
The silence stretched between them, filled only by the distant chatter of students and the ticking of the clock on the wall. Akashi's eyes softened, but the pain was evident. "I guess I always knew something was off. You've changed, Y/N. You're not the same girl I fell in love with."
