"So what kind of plane is it?" Cleo asks. She was sat with Pope, Charlotte, and Kie as they set up to play with dominoes
"Well, it's Ward's, so I'm guessing something lit." Pope says as JJ turns to look over at Estrella who was sat at the couch with her sketchbook in her hand that she accidentally left at John B's.
"That's what I'm talking about. Flying private, baby." Cleo jokes making Charlotte laugh
JJ sighs before slowly approaching Estrella. The girl seemed to be too engrossed in her drawing to notice JJ, so the boy sat beside her. As she looked over, JJ gives her a small smile, "Hey."
She smiles softly, "Hey."
"What are you up to?" He asks
"Finishing up a surfboard design incase this whole El Dorado thing is a scam." She chuckles
JJ smiles as she turns back to her book, "You don't wanna play with the others?"
"No." Estrella scoffs, "Pope cheats at that game every single time we play."
"That's true." JJ chuckles. He looks over at her again, noticing how her face falls slightly when she begins to focus again. He looks down at his hand, "Hey, Star."
"Mhm?" She hums looking over at him
"Uh, you know the whole situation the other night?"
"Yeah."
"Well, um, that wasn't that cool." He stammers scratching the side of his neck. Estrella smiles lightly, "and I'm kinda beating around the bush a little bit, but, um, I'm..."
Estrella's brows furrow when his words die out, "Yeah?"
She turns towards the window he was staring at noticing the bright light beside it. The two stand, "What is that?"
"That's a fire." JJ says before pointing towards John B's room, "We gotta tell 'em! Tell 'em! Hey, fire! Yo!"
Estrella rushes in the room, "Guys! Guys! Guys!" The two jump up, "Sorry! There's a fire!"
"What?" John B says
"Fire? Wait, what?" Sarah exclaims as they rush to get up
"Wait. Estrella, what are you talking about?" John B says
"Come on! Get outta there!" JJ says to Pope
"The house is on fire!" Estrella says as JJ steps back from the door when the flames rise
"Oh shit." Sarah says reaching for the doorknob
"Sarah, get away from the door." John B yells
"Ow!" She says pulling her hand away from the door. The teens panic as they try to look for a way to leave the house.
Estrella breathes heavily as her eyes bounce around the house. She walks toward the front door before pushing it open and walking onto the patio. She immediately takes note of the flames engulfing the house, but noticed they weren't as high as they were in the back.
"Estrella!" She hears. She ignores them as she walks over to an old surfboard lying up against the house that she was supposed to finish for John B.
"Estrella!" She hears again. She dropped the surfboard and walks back in the house
"Guys!" She calls out. The others turn toward her and rush over. JJ makes it first
"What are you doing?" JJ exclaims
"We can get out, but we need to hurry." She says taking her jacket off
"What are you talking about?" Pope says
Estrella wraps her jacket around her hand before pushing the screen door of the patio open. She jumps back at the flame coming up the side of the railing. She steps back and kicks at the railing.
"Estrella, stop!"
She grunts as she kicks at it again. Hoping that the railing being old would make it easier to break. She kicks it again and the railing finally falls.
She props the surfboard up on the side of the stairs. The board being long enough to extend over the initial ring of the fire. She stands back up and walks across the board making it onto the grass away from the fire. She turns to everyone else, "Come on!"
Kie walks across next. Estrella holds her hands out and helps the girl onto the grass. Not letting her go until Kie stood beside her. Charlotte walks across and lands beside Kie who grabs onto her hand.
Sarah breathes heavily as she walks down. Estrella grabs her hands just as a piece of wood falls on the side of the house. Sarah steps quicken and she lands safely with Kie and Charlotte. Estrella holds her hands out again as Cleo comes down. The girl quick to make it across.
Estrella tucks her hair behind her ear as Pope comes across. Estrella grabs his hand and helps him down. Right after Pope lands, John B walks across.
"I got him." John B tries as he lands beside Estrella
The girl ignores him as she turns towards JJ. The blonde walks down the surfboard as the others did. Estrella grabs onto his hand as he gets closer. A piece of wood falls behind him onto the surfboard making him stumble. Estrella yanks him toward her and he nearly lands on top of her. Luckily, John B and Pope were stood behind her and were able to stop the two from falling.
As soon as JJ is upright, he pushes Estrella behind him. The teens look up at the house as the flames continue to raise higher. Wood falls from different places before landing on the ground. Estrella's hands go up in her hair as she takes deep breaths.
"Shit."
All of them watching as the home they've shared so many memories in, burned to the ground.
