The low hum of conversation filled the luxurious meeting room inside one of Seoul's most exclusive hotels. Seated at the head of the table was Mr. Kim,
the powerful head of the Kim mafia family. Across from him sat Mr. Jeon, his long-time rival and leader of the Jeon clan. The air between them was tense, heavy with years of bloodshed, betrayals, and bad blood. But today, something far more dangerous loomed over them—Lee Xin.
Mr. Kim leaned forward, eyes narrowing as he spoke. "If Lee Xin sets foot in Korea, we're finished. He won't stop at taking a slice of our territory. He’ll take it all."
Everyone knew Lee Xin’s reputation. The Chinese gangster had risen to power quickly, becoming one of the most feared criminals in Asia. Ruthless and cunning, his expansion into Korea would mark the end of both the Kim and Jeon families’ control.
Mr. Jeon gave a slow nod, his face unreadable, though the weight of the situation was clear in his gaze. "We both know he's been planning this for months. If we don’t stop him now, he'll wipe us out and take control of everything."
There was a brief pause as the two leaders exchanged a look that was filled with years of animosity. But both knew that the enemy they faced now was more dangerous than their rivalry.
Mr. Kim sighed, the tension on his face apparent as he rubbed his temples. "We can’t fight him alone. We’ll have to work together if we want to survive this."
Before Mr. Jeon could respond, the door creaked open, and Mr. Kim's secretary stepped in, bowing respectfully before speaking. "Sir, YN is waiting outside."
Mr. Kim nodded. "Bring her in."
The secretary disappeared momentarily, and moments later, YN entered the room. She had been sitting on one of the couches at the entrance of the hotel, completely unaware of the gravity of the meeting taking place inside. As she stepped in, her eyes swept across the room—and then froze.
Jungkook.
Her heart skipped a beat. She hadn’t seen him in two years, not since their devastating breakup in Japan. He looked the same, yet different.
The cold, unreadable look on his face made her stomach churn. His dark eyes met hers for a brief moment before he looked away, his expression indifferent. That brief glance, however, sent her reeling.
For a moment, it felt like the ground beneath her feet had shifted, and the memories of their past came flooding back. The love. The betrayal. The heartbreak.
But before she could gather her thoughts, Mr. Kim’s voice broke through her daze. "YN, you’ll be working with Jungkook on this mission."
Her eyes widened in shock. "What?" she blurted out, her voice barely under control. She had assumed her brother, Taehyung, would be the one partnered with Jungkook. After all, they had the experience, the skills. She and Jungkook…they were history.
Mr. Kim’s gaze hardened as he looked at her. "This is not up for discussion. You and Jungkook will eliminate Lee Xin before he sets foot in Korea."
Her mind raced. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her father was pairing her with the one person she never wanted to see again, let alone work with. She tried to speak, to object, but before the words left her mouth, Mr. Kim cut her off.
"This is final."
She swallowed her frustration, her thoughts tangled in the emotions that resurfaced the moment she saw Jungkook. She thought of Taehyung, who had always been the logical choice to handle such missions. Why wasn’t he working with Jungkook?
As if reading her mind, Mr. Kim turned his attention to Jungwon, Jungkook's younger brother, who had been sitting silently beside his father. "Jungwon," Mr. Kim began, "you'll work with Taehyung. The two of you will handle Lee Xin’s assets and weapon supplies once YN and Jungkook eliminate him."
Jungwon nodded, the quiet confidence of someone who knew his role well. Meanwhile, YN's thoughts were racing. She wanted to protest, but she knew better than to argue with her father in front of Mr. Jeon. His decision was final, and there was no going back.
Her eyes flicked once more to Jungkook. He hadn’t said a word, his face still a cold mask of indifference. Did he feel nothing about seeing her after two years? Or was he simply better at hiding his emotions?
Whatever it was, YN knew one thing for sure—this mission was going to test her in ways she hadn’t prepared for.
