Colby's P.O.VIt had been almost a month since the prank now. I haven't been trying to talk with Sam about it anymore, everytime i tried to speak with him about anything it always ended up in a screaming match. So i figured he just needed a little more time to come over all the trauma i had caused him.
I rolled over to my side, taking up my phone to scroll through some social media. I saw a lot of new comments under some of my pictures on instagram, almost all of them were hate. I looked confused trough them all until i saw another notification pop up.
I shot up in my bed when i saw a notification from Sam Pepper's youtube chanel. A new video that was realised a couple of minutes ago, titeld 'killing best friend prank. Ft. Sam & Colby' I clicked on the link and started watching it.
This time, when i could see it all from another perspective i could see the panic and the horror inside of Sam's eyes. When i got to the roof part i turned of the video. I coulden't bring myself to watch any longer.
I sat up in my bed to text Pepper.
'I thought we agreed to not realise that shit?' I typed out, waiting for a replay for a couple of minutes.
When i didn't got any i got back to instagram to scroll trough some of the comments i had gotten.
'How could you do that to Sam'
'What kind of friend are you?'
'Are you and Sam good?'
I could feel a pit of anxiety and sadness starting to form inside of my stomach. But i knew that i shouldn't feel sad about all the hate i got, becuse i deserved it, i boght this on myself.
I just sat there for awhile, scrolling through all the comments with tears in my eyes. I heard my door slam open and i jumped up from my bed in a panic, i felt myself calm down when i saw that it was just Jake.
Jake had an look of anger and consern mixed on his face, but i didn't have any time to think about his face before he started screaming at me. "Colby! What the hell were you thinking?" he shouted, his frustration bubbling over like a pot of boiling water.
I looked up from my phone, over all the scattered camera equipment over my floor, my eyes filling with guilt. "Jake, I—"
"No!" Jake interrupted, his tone rising. "You don't get to 'I' anything. That was so messed up! What if Sam actually believed something bad happened? What's wrong with you?"
"I'm sorry! I didn't think..." My voice trailed off, my guilt builidibg up a heavy weight on my chest. I couldn't deny that he'd taken the prank too far, but the fun, loving part of me had just wanted to create something unique for their channel. A viral moment. I didn't think about the pain it would cause.
"Didn't think? You never think! You're always chasing the next crazy idea without considering how it will affect anyone else!" Jake continued, pacing back and forth. "What were you even trying to accomplish?"
I swallowed hard, feeling a little defensive. "It was meant to be funny! I didn't think Sam would freak out like that! He's usually—"
"Usually what? Cool with watching his best friend die in front of him?" Jake cut in, his voice echoing off the walls. "You think that's how you build a friendship? By scaring the hell out of him?"
I dropped my head in defeat, the heat of the argument turning cold. "No... I just wanted to get views, to blow up the channel. I didn't mean for it to go this far."
"Doesn't matter what you meant!" Jake snapped back. "You hurt him. You genuinely messed him up. Do you even realize that?"
Silence enterd over them, the only sounds being the distant hum of cars outside. I ran a hand through his disheveled hair, exhaustion seeping into his bones. I knew that Jake was right, but admitting defeat stung. "I... I messed up, okay? I didn't mean to hurt him. I thought it would be a funny video. I didn't think it would make him feel that way."
"Look, we need to fix this," Jake said, finally calming down, his tone softening. "Sam's our friend. We care about him."
"I know, I know," I murmured back, my face pale. "What do we do?"
"First, we apologize. And then we tell him it was all a joke," Jake suggested. "But we have to be real about it. He needs to know that we're sorry and that we never intended for him to feel that way, to feel scared."
My anger started to rise up again, wiping my eyes. "I have tried! He won't listed to me!."
As Jake crossed his arms, a hint of anger crossed his features again. "You need to try harder. And we need to promise each other that we'll slow down. No more pranks without talking it out first. They're not worth losing our friendship over."
Colby took a deep breath, grateful for Jake's anger—it made him recognize the gravity of his actions. "I promise. No more pranking without approval. I'll get better. I'll make this right."
