Roslyn finally had her apartment to herself again and she was taking full advantage of the peace and quiet. As soon as Sam and Dean left on another one of their wild goose chases searching for John, Roslyn skipped a week of school. She didn't go anywhere, simply basking in the glorious sanctuary of her home and refusing to answer the door for anyone.

That didn't stop Koda from breaking in through the fire escape, but she was willing to let the intrusion slide. They were cuddled on the couch, watching a rerun of 10 Things I Hate About You, when Roslyn's phone rang from the other side of the room. She didn't move to answer it and Koda looked down at her suspiciously.

"How long are you gonna let that ring for?"

"Until it goes to voicemail," Roslyn responded softly, her eyes never leaving the screen.

Koda laughed in her ear, pressing a kiss to her messy hair, but not commenting on it further. Sure enough, the phone silenced, but Roslyn could hear it vibrating with an onslaught of texts. She rolled her eyes, but still didn't get up. The ringtone sounded again and she stayed firmly in place, holding Koda back when he made to get up to answer the phone himself.

Finally, Roslyn heard a familiar car pull up and her bedroom window opened.

"Roslyn, would you answer your damn phone?" It was Emmett. Not who Roslyn was expecting.

She furrowed her brows and turned to face him. Koda turned, too, his expression more shocked than Roslyn's. His jaw was dropped and his brown eyes were blown wide, no doubt wondering how he'd gotten in and how he'd appeared in the kitchen without a sound. Roslyn looked back and forth between the boys and sighed, pressing the tips of her fingers to her forehead.

"You couldn't use the door like a normal person?" She asked, exasperated.

Emmett finally realized who was with her and he immediately regretted his hasty decision. "How was I supposed to know he'd be here?"

Koda still hadn't moved and Roslyn put a hand on his leg, squeezing once to remind him to breathe. "I dunno, maybe check for a heartbeat?"

"You live in an apartment complex!" Emmett's whisper was angry as he hissed the words through his teeth. "There are a million heartbeats here."

Roslyn could hear Rosalie's chiming laughter from where she waited at her car.

"Then get to the point. What the fuck do you want?"

That changed Emmett's mood and he immediately had a wicked grin on his face. "Alice says there's going to be a thunderstorm. I was sent to invite you to play."

Roslyn smiled then, but couldn't get a word out before Koda finally broke free from his stupor.

"There's more of you?"

Emmett's guilty expression returned and he rubbed the back of his neck. "Rose said they knew."

"Yeah, about me," Roslyn growled back. "I didn't feel the need to tell them that there were more vampires in Forks. Raya is already freaked out enough as it is."

"So there are more of you." Koda's voice was building in strength and he got to his feet, leaning heavily on Roslyn.

"Yes and no," she answered, not really wanting to get into it. "The Cullens and I are technically different species.

"We are?" Emmett asked, cocking his head to the side like a dog. A very large, very bear-like dog.

Rosalie's voice met their ears from outside the apartment as realization dawned on her. "That's why Jasper's been acting so guilty."
