CH-1: Welcome To The OASIS

The year is 2045. The world has been gripped by an energy crisis from the depletion of fossil fuels and the consequences of global warming and overpopulation, causing widespread social problems and economic stagnation, and due to various geopolitical events, many of Earth's cities have become slums because the people having ceased effort in fixing problems and instead now try to outlive them.

To escape the decline their world is facing, people turn to the virtual reality universe called the Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation, or OASIS for short. It is a virtual reality simulator accessible by players using visors and haptic technology. It functions both as an MMORPG and as a virtual society, with its currency being the most stable in the real world. The OASIS is the haven people retreat to because it's a universe where the limits of reality are one's own imagination. People are drawn to the OASIS because of everything it has to offer, but stay because of what/who they can be. There are challenges to undertake, experiences to endure, culture of all kinds to experience, and because the entire world spends most of their time in the OASIS, it's where they interact with each other, and the only way people make friends these days.

The City of New York, often called New York City or simply New York, the most populous city in the United States. It is also the most densely populated major city in the United States. Located at the southern tip of the state of New York, the city is the centre of the New York metropolitan area, one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. A global power city, New York City exerts a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important centre for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world.

On the far outskirts of Manhattan island, over in the region of Brooklyn, a lone house is set up by the streets and it definitely stood out amongst that the remains of other homes that look to have decayed and have been left behind by those who used to live there. This home is two stories tall and has a wooden finish to the exterior, an American flag on a pole out front, while it looks clean and proper.
