it was devil's night , a holiday in detroit where people go around and commit arson in random places. that night was the night of my best friend eliza's birthday.

eliza was a cheerleader when we were in high school. we've been best friends since we were 3 and we're the complete opposite. she's the preppy cheerleader and i'm the poor goth that went to public school all of her life.

me and her decided to just grab a bite to eat at a bar and grill restaurant in downtown detroit. i have to walk everywhere because i can't afford a car. after we got done eating , both of us walked by an apartment that was a crime scene. one of the windows was broken.

"i just hope whoever got hurt is okay." said eliza. eliza was a nursing student. she always had a passion for helping other people.

the smoke from the devil's night festivities was making me sick. me and eliza had to keep coughing every minute it seems.

suddenly , a man with long blonde hair and a leather jacket came up to us , asking if either of us knew how to change a tire.

"i do." i said , not fully trusting him. everyone in detroit looks the same to me though so i helped him anyway. he lead the way and me and eliza followed him. it seemed like we were walking for an eternity. finally , we came to a stop. there was no car in sight.

"alright , man , where the fuck's the car?" i said , throwing my hands up. the man chuckled sinisterly.

all of the sudden , a gun was fired behind us and a bullet shot through eliza's chest. i panicked and immediately held her before trying to fight back. a few other men popped out of nowhere. i wanted to strangle all of them.

but when i made an attempt , a man with dreads slit my throat and i fell to the ground. they kicked me and stepped on me as if i was a cardboard box.

when they finally left , i looked over at eliza. she was already dead. i felt a tear roll down my face as i was gagging and trying to hold onto life. but i just couldn't. my entire world went black.
