-Modern Day-
The small town of burbrooke, is a hidden corner of the world. This particular town is a little extra special. It is a small town where witchcraft is still alive. After the Salem Seven during the 1800's, witches had decided to go underground. They stayed hidden and let humanity believe they didn't exist. However, it turns out most of the surviving witches all piled up in this beautiful green town. This town is surrounded by trees, being centered in the woods of the gorgeous Ohio.
Everyone attempts to stay careful, but for the most part the magic stayed alive in this wooded town. Parents still teach the craft, passing it along to the next generation. There aren't many new faces. So, when there are people notice. Like today.
"Mom. Why did we have to move here. It's so creepy, and I have no service." Eliza complains, waving her phone around the car.
"That's because they couldn't put cell towers without risking the life of their woods. There isn't service out here. No tv or internet. How sweet is that." Her mother goes on whilst admiring the beauty of this small town. Eliza slumps back in her seat. The irritation of being cut off from the outside world unamusing to her.
They pull onto their road that's quilted with shade from very tall trees. Stepping out of the vehicle she looks at the two-story house she will now call home.
"Help your father grab the bags." Her mother instructs walking into the house with only her purse and duffle bag. Eliza rolls her eyes heading to the trunk of the car, slinging her backpack over her shoulder.
"Step." she mumbles to herself before grabbing a bag.
"What?" He asks as he walks up to her.
"Nothing." she says walking past him into the home. Entering the home she is faced with stairs leading to the second floor. She looks to her right to see a large dinner table, past that being the kitchen. To her left is the living room. It's completely empty. Her mother has yet to add her "special touch" as she calls it. She drops the random bag by the stairs before setting off to find her room.
When she reaches the top of the stairs she walks down the long corridor stopping in front of the door at the very end. She opens the door to a charming room. The room is pretty much empty, only housing a full size bed. There is a bay window straight across from, like she had in her old room. She realizes as she walks around, it's almost exactly like her old room. The closet is directly to the left of the door. Dropping her bags on the floor she plops down onto the bed staring at the ceiling. She closes her eyes annoyed with the light peering in through her window.
Suddenly, it's dark. She opens her eyes sitting up. There is a black curtain hanging from her window. Turning quickly, she looks to see if her mother had came in to put it up. No one is with her. Unsure of what to think she walks out of the room. When she gets to the top of the stairs her mother looks up at her.
"Honey, could you go to the store for me. We need a few things for dinner. I would go but I am trying to unpack the kitchen boxes in order to cook." She says walking back into the kitchen. Before she can react her father walks up behind her, patting her on the back. She looks up at him but her just walks past her and down the stairs. She chooses to walk, seeing as everything is pretty close by. When they were driving she noticed that the store was a couple streets over. She takes the money slamming the door on her way out.
She crosses the street and cuts through the park. She notices that there is an alley directly across from the park that cuts through the houses. She takes that short cut. As soon as she gets through the alley she can see the store across the street. She looks right and she can see her school in the distance. To the left is a library, cafe and gas station. She cautiously crosses the street and enters the store. When the bell above her head rings everyone looks at her. She starts to feel a little nervous with everyone's eyes on her. They are staring like she has just interrupted something. Her mouth is all of a sudden so dry, she attempts to clear her throat as she takes a basket.
Walking down the isles, collecting items her mother listed off, she notices a person following her. She turns quickly causing the person to panic and look at a random item off the shelf in front of her. She squints unsure but also sure that a random girl is following her.
She decides she has to catch her before she can approach her so she turns a corner and stops. Just then the girl turns the corner quickly crashing right into Eliza.
"Are you following me?" She asks sounding calm, but very much getting annoyed.
"No." she tries to lie. She can see that Eliza doesn't believe her, so she gives in. "Okay, kind of. You're new, and we don't get new people. Like ever. So...I just wanted to see what you were like. I am Luna by the way." She says sticking her hand out, grinning like an idiot. She pushes her curly blonde hair out of her face, just for it to return to the exact same place. She has the prettiest cerulean blue eyes. They are piercing her, Eliza begins to feel as if Luna had been searching for something in her eyes, with the way she held their eye contact for so long. Eliza takes her hand.
"Eliza." She says simply. She knows exactly why they don't get new people. Because they have no cell towers.
"You are so pretty Eliza," Luna says as she admires her long black hair and hazel eyes, "it's nice to meet you. How old are you? I don't mean to be rude, I just wanted to know if you will be starting highschool with us tomorrow." Luna rambles, making Eliza's head spin.
"I'm 16 and yes, tomorrow I start Senior year." She says. Luna cheers making Eliza giggle.
"Hey would you be down to meet my friends? I am meeting with them at the park later today. The one across the street." She says pointing in the direction she is referring too.
Eliza thinks about it before deciding it would be much better than staying home with her parents, no service, and no tv. "Sure. Why not?" Luna cheers again. She gives her a time to meet before walking away. Eliza thinks about how weird that encounter was, but she also had already decided this entire town was weird. At this point she is going to just start rolling with the punches. This place is so different from the city, and the people. Well, based solely on her encounter with Luna they are strange.
