"Hey mom, I met a girl at the store her name is Luna, she asked if I wanted to meet up with her and her friends at the park. Is it okay if I go?" she asks playing with her hands.
"Sure honey, just don't stay out too late." her mother says, fully focused on cooking. Eliza quickly speeds out the front door before her mom could change her mind.
Whilst she walks to the park she tugs her leather jacket closer to her in attempts to keep the cold air out. She spots three girls sitting at a bench. Approaching the girls she spots Luna sitting with one leg over the other. The girls attention all turns to her as she gets closer.
"Eliza!" Luna says hopping off her seat rushing up to her. She jumps into her arms causing Eliza to giggle a little. "I'm so glad you could make it. " She says, grinning. She pulls her by her arm dragging her to the table. "Guy's this is Eliza, the girl I was telling you about. The redhead sitting properly smiles softly waving to Eliza. The girl sitting on top of the table, criss cross, just nods at her. Luna turns to Eliza to introduce her friends. "The stunning redhead there is Mary. And the emo goddess is Rowan." These introductions make her friends laugh. Luna encourages Eliza to sit, so she does. She starts to get bombarded with questions. It somewhat begins to feel like an interrogation.
"Where are you from?" Mary asks, leaning her elbows on the table. Before she could answer another question is thrown her way.
"Why did you move here?" Rowan asks, looking suspect. Causing Eliza to shift feeling as if she's landed on someone else's territory.
"I am originally from New York. So, you could imagine the shift this is." she says waving her hand around, referring to the small town. "As far as I am aware, we moved here because my mom got divorced and remarried. It was like in the span of 6 months, and the guy she got with is a small town guy. So, he encouraged her to move to a small town. So...here we are. Why she chose the only small town with no cell service, I couldn't tell you." She says rolling her eyes.
"Well, she probably knew what she was doing if she chose this place." Luna says, taking an elbow to the side from Mary, and an intense glare from Rowan.
"What?" She asks. Eliza is left confused as the three girls fall silent, having a conversation with only their eyes.
"So, Eliza...how do you like this place so far?" Mary asks. The tension releases slightly as they move on.
Crossing her legs Eliza continues to answer their questions, "I'd never admit this to my mom, but it is beautiful. It's so green and serene. The no service does bug for sure, but it's nice. I can see why people would want to live here." Mary seems happy with her answer.
"Isn't it magical!" Luna says, taking a deep breath and closing her eyes. The wind flows through her curly blonde hair. Eliza is obsessed with the person Luna is. She has never met anyone like her. She is so positive and cheerful and definitely blessed with beauty. It's the way she dresses though. She is so out there, compared to nearly every person she had ever met. She is wearing a long, moss colored skirt that sways in the wind. Paired with a stylish white, cropped shirt. Its layered under a brown loose fitting knitted sweater. To top it all off she has some fairy looking sandals, that lace up her legs. Tying the whole look together she has loads of crystals on, necklaces, rings, bracelets and a flower crown. She begins examen the other girls as well. They all have completely different aesthetics. Where she comes from it isn't super common to see such different characters hanging out.
Rowan gives strong emo energy. She is wear loose, black ripped jeans with a black band T. Covering her T is a black, loose knitted sweater with skulls on it. Her nails are painted black, and she's got the dark eye liner. She has some platform Dr. Martens on. She has one necklace with a black crystal dangling. She is the complete opposite of her friend.
Unlike her sunshine bestie, Rowan does not seem to trust Eliza at all. There is a level of mystery surrounding her that intrigues Eliza. Mary on the other hand, is hard to read. She is being polite, maybe too nice. Almost like the way you would treat a family member that's visiting and you wish would leave already.
Mary is giving a mixture between school girl and cottage core. She has long, straight red hair. She is wearing a black floral dress over a white, long-sleeved turtle neck. She is wearing those Dr. Martens with the buckle straps, and white socks with ruffles. She is wearing a single necklace, with a crystal hanging from it.
"Guys, Eli is starting school tomorrow with us." She says, excitedly. Mary seems pleased, Rowan seems annoyed. Eliza attempts to brush it off.
"Do you have your classes yet?" Mary asks her. She shakes her head.
"Not yet, we just got to town today. I guess the principal told my mom I can stop by the office tomorrow morning to get my schedule." Mary nods.
"Hopefully, we get classes together." Luna says, linking her arm with Eliza's making her smile. Luna is definitely growing on her. This time takes the initiative with Eliza.
"You should hang with us tomorrow. We usually meet here and walk to school together, we sit together at lunch, and then after school we meet up at the front of the school and go to the local cafe to hang out." She says, giving her warmest smile. Eliza takes a moment to assess the situation. She looks to Rowan who looks unbothered. She is picking at her nail polish.
"Yes! You have too!" Luna squeals, "It's decided, you're rolling with us. We meet at the park at 6:30, school starts at 7:30. We like to hang out before school." She says shaking Eliza's arm.
"Okay, fine." Eliza giggles, "But, I should get going. My mom was making dinner before I left. She gets so mad when I'm late for dinner." They all say goodbye before Eliza stands up and heads back home.
