The Sharma house bustled with activity. Vaibhav Sharma sat comfortably in his chair, reading the morning newspaper, while Mishika was busy helping her mother in the kitchen. Raunak was still half-asleep, wandering around the house aimlessly with his hair disheveled. Everything seemed to be in its usual rhythm when the door suddenly creaked open.
Shivani stepped inside, a bright smile on her face, holding her bags in hand. "Surprise!" she announced, breaking the stillness in the air.
Ruhanika, who had been stirring something on the stove, froze mid-motion. "Shivani? Tum yahan?!" she exclaimed, turning toward the door, eyes wide in disbelief.
Vaibhav peeked over the top of his newspaper, lowering it slowly as his face lit up with surprise and confusion. "Beta, what are you doing here? You didn't mention you were coming home?"
Raunak, still groggy, blinked a few times before his eyes focused on the figure standing at the door. "Shivi ?" His voice was thick with sleep.
Shivani dropped her bags by the door and rushed to hug her parents. "Haan, surprise! I wanted to surprise you all," she said cheerfully, wrapping her arms around her mother first.
Ruhanika hugged her tightly, but her motherly instincts kicked in immediately. "Surprise toh theek hai, but why didn't you inform us? Beta, sab theek toh hai na? Achanak kaise...?"
Vaibhav's expression softened, but concern flickered in his eyes. "Shivani, is everything alright? You usually tell us when you plan to come home."
Raunak, rubbing his eyes, came closer and teased, "Arey, kuch toh gadbad hai... You usually don't pull off surprise visits. What's going on?"
Shivani laughed nervously, trying to hide her hesitation. "Nahi, nahi... nothing's wrong. I just wanted to take a little break, you know? I missed home."
But her hesitation didn't go unnoticed by her mother. Ruhanika's face turned more serious, her worry evident. "Shivani, if something happened, you can tell us. Don't hide anything."
For a moment, Shivani felt her heart race. She didn't want to worry them. Just as she was about to say something, Mishika entered the room, instantly reading the situation.
"Arey, mom, relax," Mishika interjected smoothly. "She told me about it earlier. She's just taking a break from the hectic life at AFMC."
Ruhanika turned her attention to Mishika, raising an eyebrow. "She told you earlier? And you didn't think to mention it to us?"
Mishika blinked, realizing she had unintentionally landed herself in trouble. "Uh... yeah, she wanted to keep it a surprise for you guys. I thought it was a good idea," she said, giving a sheepish smile, trying to back up Shivani.
Ruhanika sighed, placing her hands on her hips. "Mishika, tum bhi na. At least tell us next time. You know we would've prepared something special for her return."
Mishika winced slightly, offering an apologetic look. "Sorry, mom. I'll remember next time."
Vaibhav chuckled, shaking his head at the light banter between his daughters. "Well, surprise or not, it's always nice to have the family together." He stood up and embraced Shivani warmly. "We missed you, beta."
Raunak, never one to miss a chance, leaned in closer and nudged Shivani. "So, really, what's the deal? You look a little too nervous for just a break."
Shivani gave him a playful glare. "Shut up, Raunak. It's nothing like that."
