Amira turned to Johanna, her eyes filled with determination. "You're coming with us, Johanna," she said, her voice steady. "I can't let you go back to Regina. It's too dangerous."
Johanna looked at Amira, her heart swelling with both concern and pride. She nodded, her voice soft. "If that's what you want, dear one, then I'll come with you. I know you're only seventeen, and it's a lot of responsibility, but... I trust you."
Amira smiled, her eyes glistening. "Thank you, Johanna. You won't regret this."
As Johanna looked between Amira and Killian, she noticed something—an unspoken understanding between them, a connection that had grown stronger over the past year. She could see the way Killian watched over Amira, the care in his eyes, and she knew that there was potential for something more between them. Perhaps not now, but in time, when Amira was a little older, there could be something there.
Amira, Killian, and Johanna returned to the party, making their way through the crowd until they were led to Queen Uberta. The queen's face lit up with delight as she saw Amira, her eyes filled with warmth.
"Princess Amira, it's such a pleasure to see you," Queen Uberta said, her voice filled with genuine joy. "I was just discussing the export shipment—do you have a crew to help transport it?"
Amira smiled, her confidence unwavering as she continued with her plan. "Yes, Your Majesty. My fiancé has a crew, and they'll be able to handle it."
Queen Uberta's eyes widened slightly in surprise, but she nodded, clearly impressed. "How wonderful. I'll have my servants prepare the shipment for you."
Within moments, a servant was instructed to load a wagon with food, clothing, coins, jewels, and other valuable items. The servant led Amira, Killian, and Johanna to the docks, where the wagon was left in their care. Amira gave the servant a polite nod, waiting until he was out of sight before turning to Killian, her eyes filled with determination.
She looked out across the docks, her gaze sweeping over the area before she let out a sharp whistle—a signal the crew knew well. Within moments, the crew members began appearing from the shadows, making their way to the wagon with eager expressions.
"All right, lads," Amira called out, her voice carrying across the docks. "Let's get this shipment onto the ship. We don't have much time."
The crew moved quickly, each of them grabbing items from the wagon and carrying them aboard the Jolly Roger. Johanna watched in awe as Amira took charge, her voice steady and commanding, the crew responding to her without hesitation. It was clear that Amira had earned their respect, that she had become more than just the captain's guest—she was part of the crew, a leader in her own right.
Killian stood beside Johanna, his eyes never leaving Amira as she worked. There was pride in his gaze, a sense of admiration that went beyond her ability to lead. He had seen her grow over the past year, had watched her transform from a sheltered princess into a confident young woman, and he knew that she was capable of great things.
As the last of the shipment was loaded onto the ship, Amira turned to the crew, a smile of satisfaction on her face. "Well done, everyone. Let's get ready to set sail."
The crew let out a cheer, their excitement palpable as they prepared to leave the port. Amira turned to Johanna, her eyes filled with warmth. "Welcome to the Jolly Roger, Johanna. This is our home now."
Johanna smiled, her heart swelling with pride. "Thank you, dear one. I'm so proud of you."
Amira nodded, her heart filled with determination. She knew that the journey ahead wouldn't be easy, that there would be challenges and dangers waiting for them. But she also knew that she wasn't alone—that she had Killian, Johanna, and the crew by her side.
And as the Jolly Roger began to set sail, leaving the port behind, Amira felt a sense of freedom that she had never known before. This was her life now—filled with adventure, danger, and the people she loved. And she was ready to face whatever lay ahead.
Amira stood beside Killian, watching as the crew worked to secure the shipment and prepare the Jolly Roger for departure. She glanced over at Johanna, who was taking in the sight of the ship and the bustling crew, and a thought crossed her mind. She turned to Killian, her brow furrowed in concern.
"Killian," she said softly, "where will Johanna sleep? The cabins are all filled with the men."
Killian paused, considering her question for a moment before nodding. "You're right. We'll need to get her some proper attire as well. For now, since you're still using my cabin, I'll figure something out."
Amira smiled gratefully, nodding her understanding. She knew that bringing Johanna aboard would be an adjustment, but she trusted Killian to make it work.
Once they were far enough out at sea, Killian called for the crew's attention, his voice carrying across the deck. The men gathered around, their eyes filled with curiosity as they waited to hear what their captain had to say.
"Men," Killian began, his tone steady, "we've taken on a new passenger. This is Johanna, and she's like a second mother to our Selena." He gestured to Johanna, who stood beside Amira, her eyes wide with surprise at hearing the name "Selena."
The crew turned their attention to Johanna, their expressions softening as they took in the older woman's presence. Killian continued, "The cabins are currently occupied, but we need to make sure Johanna has a place to sleep. So, I need one of you to lend your cabin to her."
For a moment, there was silence, and then two of the men stepped forward, their expressions filled with respect. "Captain, she can have my cabin," Graham said, his voice steady.
Another crew member, named Briggs, nodded in agreement. "Same here, Captain. She's welcome to mine."
Johanna's eyes widened, her heart swelling with emotion at the men's generosity. She turned to Amira, her voice trembling. "Selena?" she whispered, a hint of amusement in her tone. "That's what you're going by now?"
Amira smiled, her eyes twinkling with warmth. "It seemed fitting. And it helps keep my true identity hidden from anyone who might try to use it against us."
Johanna nodded, her eyes misting with tears. She looked at the two crew members who had offered their cabins, her voice filled with gratitude. "Thank you, both of you. Your kindness means more than I can say."
Graham and Briggs both nodded, their faces breaking into friendly smiles. "It's an honor, ma'am," Graham said. "Anyone important to Selena is important to us."
Killian gave the men a nod of approval. "Graham, you can help Johanna get settled in your cabin for now. We'll make sure she has everything she needs."
With that, the crew dispersed, returning to their duties, while Graham led Johanna below deck to show her the cabin. Amira watched them go, her heart swelling with gratitude for the crew's kindness and for Killian's leadership.
She turned to Killian, her eyes filled with warmth. "Thank you for this, Killian. Johanna means so much to me, and I'm grateful that you're making sure she's taken care of."
Killian smiled, his eyes meeting hers. "You don't need to thank me, Selena. We're in this together, and that means taking care of each other." He paused, a hint of teasing in his voice. "Besides, it's good to keep the crew on their toes."
Amira laughed softly, her heart lighter than it had been in a long time. She knew that there were challenges ahead, but for now, she was surrounded by people she trusted—people who had become her family.
And as the Jolly Roger sailed across the open sea, Amira felt a sense of peace and belonging that she had never known before.
