I don't remember much after the crash, just the sirens of the ambulance. We were all taken in, and awoke in a hospital.
I hope everything is alright. I thought. Are Josh and Colleen okay?
I looked around, and only Colleen was in the same room. No Josh. A nurse walked in, and I asked, "Where's the other guy who was in the crash?"
"Oh, he's in another room." She replied.
"Is he okay?" I asked.
"He's doing good. He should be okay." I gave her a slight smile.
Should. I thought. Should be okay. That's all I could think. I looked down, and I wasn't extremely injured, and Colleen didn't look too bad either.
After a while, the same nurse came in.
"He's alright." She said. Colleen, who was now awake, perked up.
I was so happy. This wasn't as bad as expected. The nurse told me that I was the least injured, and offered to help me go for a walk.
I took her up on the offer, and we went walking. While we were in the hallway, we ran into a young boy helping a girl walk. I smile at him, and the boy said, "Hello."
"Hi there." I replied. We both began walking to a lobby like area, where I ended up sitting next to them. We began talking.
"So, what brings you here?" He asked.
"I was in a horrible car crash," I replied. "You?"
"Well, my girlfriend here attempted suicide. She overdosed. But, luckily, she was saved." The boy said, smiling.
"By the way, I'm Chad, and this is Juliana." He said, and Juliana smiled at me.
"So, what's your name?" She said, with an extremely shy voice.
"Mike." I replied.
We continued talking for a little longer, and then I had to go back to my room because there were visitors. The nurse helped me back to my room, and I walked in to see Colleen's mom, Gwen. She smiled at me as I walked in, and she sat beside my bed.
"So, you must be Mike." She said.
"I am indeed." I replied. She was a nice woman, and I was thrilled to see her. We had a short conversation until Colleen's sister, Rachel ran in.
"Colleen!" She said, running to hug her sister. As she lifted her head, she noticed me, and came my way.
She stuck out her hand, and we shook hands.
"I'm Rachel." She said.
"I'm Mike." I replied. A nurse walked in a few minutes later, and told me I was released. I got in my normal clothes.
I asked the nurse if I could go visit Juliana. She said it was fine, and showed me that way.
We entered their room, and Chad sat by her bed, holding her hand, as they watched the television. Chad looked over, noticed me, and motioned me over. I sat by them, and we began talking.
"So, where are your parents?" He asked.
"Oh, they're still in their beds, they aren't released until tomorrow." I replied. "And you?"
"Well..." He said, and then took a long deep breath. "Juliana's dad is no longer with us, but her mom is. My parents put me up for adoption, so I was recently adopted. They hated me. They always have. I would be locked in my room, and not fed. I would be beaten, and was told I was worthless."
There was some silence.
"My mom's always at work, and on trips," Juliana said, "So most nights Chad just stays with me."
"I'm so lucky I had been let off work early the day she overdosed..." Chad began. "If I had worked my full hours, I would've never gotten to her house to see she was dying."
The couple looked into each other's eyes, and there was a moment of love.
"Once we're out of the hospital, you should come visit us." Chad said.
"I would love that." I said. I had finally made friends. And I could tell they weren't going to turn on me.
The sunrise of the next morning fell, and Colleen and Josh could be released in a few hours. We could finally go home. I got Chad and Juliana's Kiks. She gets released tomorrow.
A few hours passed, and Josh, Colleen, and I could all leave. We exited out of the hospital, and three feet out, Josh collapsed.
