"Mom?" I said, trying to believe this wasn't actually happening.
"Look at you," she said, "You've changed so much."
"Why don't we step outside and talk?" I said. I didn't want a conversation, but I had to. I didn't even want to see her ever again.
"So, you're out of jail?" I said
"Yes," She started. "I was released recently, and I had to see you." She paused for a moment. "Listen, I'm sorry. I was on drugs. It was the divorce. It just threw me off."
"Whatever." I said. I didn't want to hear her talk about how sorry she was or anything like that.
"Later today, can we meet at the bakery down the street? How's about three?" She said. I agreed to this, and off she went.
I walked inside. Josh and Colleen looked as though they had just been discussing serious information.
"How was that?" Colleen said.
"Horrible. She tried being all nice, but I didn't care for it. I don't want her to be a part of my life, and I just don't really want to stay in touch with her. She lost me a while back, and since then, I've met you guys, and I don't want to live with her." I finished, with a big deep breath.
I couldn't believe she had come back. I was beyond mad. I was just fine where I was, and I didn't need this. What if she wants me back? I don't know what I would do if that happened. It was a horrible thought, and one I'd enjoy losing.
The time came, and I walked down to the bakery, and there my mom was. I sat beside her, ordered, and we began talking.
"So, I've been thinking." She said, and I was petrified to hear what words she said next. "I want you to live with me. I have a fund I set up years ago, and it has a steady amount of money. And I have a job interview set up, and I'll hopefully get the job. Please, Mike. Think about how nice it would be? I-"
"No." I said. "I will not move in with you."
"But-" She tried interrupting, but I continued.
"You can get your rights, but know that if you do, I will run away. I will never love you. You've beat me, and I could never possibly forgive you for that. I have amazing parents right now, and I would never think even for a second about going back to live with you. If they want to adopt me, you better sign your rights away. I will not accept going to live with you, ever. Josh and Colleen are the best parents I could ever ask for. You're not taking me out of that house."
"They're not your parents!" She said.
"Well, they're better than you'd ever be. I love them unconditionally, and you can't change that. Living with you is not a possibility, and no matter what you say or do, I will not live with you." I said, proud of myself.
"Fine," she said, beginning to sob. "If that's what you want so bad." She left two twenty dollar bills on the table, and took off. I went home as well, and I was quite happy.
When I got home, Josh, Colleen, and I all sat down to talk. I explained how everything happened, and they seemed proud. They made me so happy, and I don't know what I could possibly do without them.
"And, we have been talking, and we think we may adopt you." Josh said, and I don't think I've ever smiled as big as I did when I heard Josh say those words.
"Thank you guys so much, I love you." I hugged them tightly, crying with tears of joy.
As the day continued on, Juliana texted me asking me if we could meet up. I went over to her house, and she started off by saying, "This is urgent, and we need to talk."
