VIOLET EYES STARED OUT the large windows, eyeing a hawk flying in circles around the House of Wind.
“It's been almost an hour,” Az reported.
He allowed the strange surge of power to enter the wards of Velaris when the sun came up. Rhys knew that the power was not of this world, meaning it could only be Soren’s family coming to get her. But they were not allowed to step foot into the streets of the city, where the people could see them as a threat.
“Gather the others,” he told Azriel, “I’ll get her.”
Rhys paid no attention to his Spymaster’s stare as he trudged past him to the exit.
He took his time walking to Soren's chambers. When he raised his hand to knock on her door, it opened.
“The hawk,” she said with a grin, “I know him. They're here.”
The High Lord tried to match her smile, but found himself unable to. Only managing a slight lift on the corners of his lips, “I figured. I know of no one who can turn into a bird.”
Her hand comes in contact with his, with her pulling him down the halls, “Come, let's meet my family.”
