as he laid in his hiding spot, orpheus listened to the voices, easily making out what they were saying. "appreciate you coming back to the office, doc"

"no problem, sheriff. whatever i can do to help" the doctor said as the door opened with a creak before he continued speaking, "whatever or whoever is responsible for these killings...in all my years, i've never seen injuries like them" he added.

the sheriff stayed silent, and as a clatter sounded, the doctor sighed, "i thought you should see this before i issued my report on the latest victim" their footsteps sounded again, but not for long before coming to a stop, "it's a real noodle-scratcher"

at the sound of something opening, orpheus strained his ears, trying to think what could have made the noise before the doctor continued talking once again. "the killer cut off two toes from the victim's left foot. best guess, they used a surgical saw."

"the final autopsy report's still pending" a tense silence followed before the sheriff finally spoke for the first time, "the minute you're done, send it straight to my desk, media blackout on the toes"

"sure thing, sheriff" the doctor agreed immediately as the sheriff began to walk away, "been a busy couple of weeks, huh?" the doctor asked, "at least i'm going out in style. friday's my last day" he added, momentarily halting the sheriff's steps, "happy retirement, doc"

the sheriff tried to walk away but was once again stopped by the doctor, "gonna surprise ms. anwar with a four-week cruise" he added unnecessarily, earing an unimpressed chuckle from the sheriff and an eye roll from orpheus. "excited to trade the rib shears for mai tais"

"see yourself out, i'll lock up" he finally finished, and without another word the sheriff left, the door swinging behind him with creaks, leaving the doctor behind.

he didn't stay put for long before his cautious footsteps approached the freezers, pulling the door of the one that was slightly open so he could see inside it. he had opened the one that contained wednesday, and as he rolled her out, her dead eyes stared ahead.

"i don't remember this one coming in" he said to himself, staring down at wednesday in confusion. he prodded at her softly before continuing, "full rigor, you've been dead a while. guess you won't mind waiting another day for me to cut you open" he smiled as he rolled wednesday back in, securely closing the latch.

he left quickly after that, and almost immediately thing crawled out from his hiding spot; the skull of a prop skeleton. he crawled out quickly, first letting orpheus out and then wednesday.

"five more minutes" wednesday said as thing came to a stop besides her head. "i was just getting comfortable" she added, ignoring as orpheus slid out of his own cubby with a huff.

thing listened to wednesday, as he stepped back out and closed the door, once again engulfing the girl in darkness.
