The Bridge We Burned

We built a bridge, so strong, so wide,
Where hearts could meet and fears could hide.
Laughter echoed, pure and bright,
Through days that danced from dawn to night.

But something shifted, slow, unseen,
A shadow crept where light had been.
With careless words and callous pride,
I tore apart what lay inside.

I didn't hear the subtle crack,
Each time I failed, each time I lacked.
The bridge we built, brick by brick,
Came tumbling down, fast and thick.

She stood across, her eyes confused,
Her trust betrayed, her heart misused.
I tried to speak, but it was too late—
The damage done, sealed by fate.

Now silence fills the space we crossed,
Two friends divided, one friendship lost.
Regret remains, an endless churn,
For every bridge we choose to burn.
