Sonny sat curled in the passenger seat of Moon's car as her girlfriend drove her to Miyagi-Do, one foot tapping crazily against the car floor. She fidgeted with the hem of her hoodie— or Moon's hoodie as a way to stop herself from picking at her freshly done nails.

Moon shot Sonny a quick glance, a small smirk tugging at her lips, catching Sonny mid-fidget. "What are you so nervous about?" Moon asked, her voice light as her eyebrows furrowed together.

Sonny blinked, startled out of her thoughts. "What? Why would I be nervous?" She shifted in her seat, trying to play it off, but her voice was tight and cracked a little.

Moon let out a soft laugh, giving her a knowing look as she pulled up to the dojo. "Sonny, I'm surprised that sleeve is still in tack with how much you've been messing with it."

Sonny dropped her hand immediately, her cheeks warming. "Okay..." She muttered through her sigh, turning to face Moon. "I got an email from MIT." Sonny started and Moon's eyes almost popped out of her head. She turned to face Sonny completely, her whole body turning to look at her.

"And I haven't opened it yet." Sonny said and Moon's whole demeanor dropped. She shook her head crazily, leaning closer to her girlfriend. "What? Sonny, you've gotta open it!"

Sonny slumped deeper into her seat, drawing the hood up over her head like a shield. The familiar ache settled in her chest. The memory of Demetri's words echoed in the back of her mind, sharp as glass: You're not good enough!

"What if..." Sonny hesitated, staring out the window. "What if Demetri is right? What if I'm not good enough for MIT?"

Moon frowned, her shoulders falling and her head tilting. Sonny told Moon about what Deemtri had said to her the night it happened. It broke Sonny. And Moon knew that Demetri's voice hadn't stopped echoing in Sonny's head. "You've worked hard for this, my love." She said, her voice soft but firm. "If MIT doesn't see that, they're idiots."

Sonny glanced down at her phone, slowly opening the notification titled "MIT Admissions Decision."

The knot in her chest tightened and her breath stilled. This was it.

Moon glanced at the screen, then back at Sonny's face. She reached over and slid her hand into Sonny's. "Whatever it says, it doesn't change how smart you are." Moon whispered. Her thumb stroked a slow circle against the back of Sonny's hand. "If they can't see how amazing you are? That's their loss."

Sonny nodded, her thumb hovering over the email. She sucked in a breath so sharp, it burned. She closed her eyes for a second, then tapped the screen.

Dear Sonny,
We are thrilled to offer you admission to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology...

Her eyes blurred. "No way." She whispered, her pulse racing. "No freaking way."

Moon leaned closer, trying to read the screen as anticipation started to fill her up too. "What does it say?" She asked, her breath warm against Sonny's cheek.
