the next day.

"ever since you started at that club..."

i huffed ignoring what my momma was talking about. she'd been going on a rant since i got here, i was ready to go. she had my daddy here and swore i didn't need to tell him because he would be the one disappointed in me. if we're being honest, i don't care.

my own mother will spew her hateful opinion to me, so anyone else's isn't my concern. not even my dad. he's doing just fine.

"i have an event at my job tomorrow."

"ok momma, i'll take andrea if that's what you're wanting. i have no problem." i blew the spoon of rice before feeling it with my tongue and giving it to dre. she was standing in the chair while scribbling in her journal, thankfully not understanding anything we were saying. she looked at me while chewing and pointed to her scribbles. i smiled at it. "good job baby girl."

"and where will she go onika?"

"i don't know momma, but i'll figure it out. she is my child."

"don't send her anywhere she doesn't want to be. and surely don't take her with you."

"whatevere i do is my business momma. you can't, so as her mother i'll figure it out. yaknow, i'm getting real tired of your comments momma." i got up, grabbing the plate and andrea, leaving the table. she wanted to stand over me like i don't know how to feed my own child all while being at my neck.

"onika your lights are off, where are you going?"

"where my lights off at." dumping the food in the trash, i put the plate in the dishwasher and headed towards the living room. if i was being honest, my heart was hurting. already because my lights were off, kenneth made shit harder because i had to use my last on andrea some pull ups and now my momma.

i came to her for comfort and help, but she making me feel much worse about myself. there's literally nobody in my corner right now, i can't handle backlash.

"onika don't take that baby over there in the dark. the sun is going down."

"i'll figure it out." i grabbed drea's bag and mine, next my keys. she was getting on my nerves.

"it's getting close to time for you to go, just leave her onika."

"it's alright momma, you've done enough. i appreciate you."

i went out the door and kept walking, ignoring her calls for me. she has to understand that you can only take so much. especially when you're already beating yourself up about things.

"onika!"

i buckled andrea in, getting in next. before i could think twice i drove off towards my apartment.

the whole drive i had to think of what i would do.....

"kenneth just for tonight." i sighed, walking back and forth on the phone, rubbing my forehead. i had flashlights and candles lit, our only option for light at the moment. my heart was heavy. "please."
