Miyeon opened her eyes open to find herself in bright white room. She slowly sat up, her body feeling weak and unsteady. She glanced around, realising she was in a hospital room, but it wasn't the room she had been in before.
Her mind struggled to piece together how she ended up there. The events of the previous night were a blur, flashes of faces and emotions flickering through her thoughts, but none of it made sense. She remembered something about the Blood Moon, but everything after that was a blank.
"How did I get here?", she wondered, her hand lightly touching her neck, feeling something faintly familiar yet terrifying.
Just then, the sound of the door creaking open startled her. Her gaze snapped to the entrance, and there stood Jaeyun, his expression a mix of relief and guilt. He stepped into the room quietly, as if he was unsure how to approach her, his eyes searching hers for something—an answer, perhaps, or maybe forgiveness.
"Miyeon," His voice was soft, almost hesitant, as he moved closer to the bed.
She blinked at him, confused. "Jaeyun? What happened? Why am I here?" Her voice was raspy, a reflection of the exhaustion that weighed on her.
Jaeyun swallowed hard, his hands fidgeting as he stood beside her. "You... you don't remember?" He avoided her eyes for a moment before finally meeting her gaze, his expression pained. "Last night, during the Blood Moon you were hurt."
Miyeon furrowed her brows, trying to recall, but her mind was a haze. "Hurt? How?" Her hand instinctively went to her neck again, and Jaeyun's eyes followed the movement, guilt flashing across his face.
"You were attacked," he said quietly, his voice filled with regret. "Attacked? By who?" she asked confused and worried.
"It was..." Jaeyun began, his voice low and steady. "It was some vampire from the outskirts. Someone who lost control during the Blood Moon. I got there as fast as I could and stopped him before things got worse."
Miyeon blinked, confusion crossing her face. "A vampire from the outskirts?" she repeated softly, trying to make sense of it. The words didn't seem to fully connect with the fragmented memories she had, but she trusted Jaeyun. He wouldn't lie about something like this. Right?
Jaeyun nodded, his expression unreadable as he kept his gaze focused on the floor. "Yes," he lied, trying to keep his voice calm. "It happens sometimes during the Blood Moon. Vampires from the outskirts wander in and they can be dangerous."
He could feel the weight of his words, the lie settling like a stone in his chest. He hated himself for it, but he couldn't tell her the truth. Not yet. Not when she was still recovering.
Jaeyun cleared his throat and tried to shift the conversation to something lighter, his voice softening as he spoke. "The nurses gave you a blood transfusion," he said, glancing briefly at the IV attached to her arm. "So, hopefully by tomorrow, you'll be feeling much better and you'll be able to leave."
