Miyeon burst out of the palace doors, her breaths coming out in sharp, visible puffs as the icy air bit at her skin. Snow swirled around her, thick and relentless, masking her vision and turning the world into a white blur. Her boots crunched against the frozen ground as she ran, her heart pounding so loud it drowned out everything else.
She didn't dare look back.
The snowstorm grew fiercer, making it nearly impossible to see. The cold seeped into her bones, her hands trembling as she clutched the key tightly. Her feet slipped slightly on the icy ground, but she pushed forward, desperate to put as much distance between herself and the nightmare inside the castle.
But it wasn't enough.
A shadow moved swiftly behind her, almost invisible in the blizzard. Before she could react, Jaeyun lunged out of the storm, knocking her off her feet and sending her sprawling into the snow.
She gasped as the cold hit her like a thousand needles piercing her skin. Struggling to push herself up, she looked up to see Jaeyun standing over her, his blood-red eyes glowing ominously against the white backdrop. His smirk was gone, replaced by an expression of chilling detachment.
"You can't run from me, Miyeon," he said, his voice as cold as the snow beneath her.
Miyeon scrambled backward, her hands sinking into the snow as she tried to distance herself. "Jaeyun, stop! Please, this isn't you!" she begged, her voice shaking.
But her words didn't reach him. His hand shot out, grabbing her wrist in a vice-like grip. "You made me weak," he growled, pulling her closer. "Not anymore."
Miyeon winced, trying to free herself, but his strength was overwhelming. "Jaeyun, fight it!" she cried, tears streaming down her face and freezing almost instantly. "I know you're in there somewhere!"
For a brief moment, his grip faltered, and his expression softened but the bloodlust quickly returned, stronger than before. Jaeyun leaned closer, his fangs glinting as the snowstorm howled around them.
her frustration and sadness pouring out in every word. "How can you be so blind, Jaeyun?!" she yelled, her voice cracking. "You know this isn't what you want! This isn't you! Stop letting that asshole Jungwoo control you!"
Her words echoed in the now quieter snowfall. The raging storm seemed to respond to her despair, the violent winds calming down until only gentle flakes fell, softening the stark silence that followed.
Jaeyun froze, his grip loosening slightly as her words seemed to resonate somewhere deep inside him. His red eyes flickered, the cold indifference wavering for just a moment. But whatever internal struggle he might have been facing, it was gone in an instant, replaced with a steely resolve.
"You don't understand," he muttered, his voice low and almost pained. "This is who I am."
Before Miyeon could respond, he lunged forward, his claws slashing across her torso. A sharp cry escaped her lips as she stumbled back, clutching at her wound. Blood seeped through her fingers, staining the pristine snow beneath her in stark crimson. The pain was blinding, but it was nothing compared to the heartbreak she felt seeing Jaeyun like this.
