September 4th, 3:00 pm.
An orange car pulled up next to a house. The car parks before its engines stopped. A few seconds later, a Heeler came out of the car with her backpack in hand. Another dog came out of the house. A red dog with a band aid on his knees walked down the steps to greet the Heeler as her car drove off. "Hey Christine! How you doing?" Rusty asked. Christine looked down to his band aid and asked back, "How's your knee doing?" Rusty chuckled as pointed at it. "A bit better! Wouldn't complain!" Christine smiled with Rusty bringing her into the house. "Looks like we're gonna be here for a while before Mackenzie gets here!" The red dog said. The two sat on the couch to relax. Rusty's mum came around the corner to greet the Heeler. "Hey Bluey! How are you? I made some soup for you two!" She said while placing the bowls and cups of juice on the table. "I'm doing fine! The bowl looks good!" Christine said before picking up the bowl to eat the soup. "And a cheers to a good fresh bowl of soup!" Rusty exclaimed. Rusty and Christine tapped their cups together before taking sip and eating the bowl.
3 minutes later...
The two felt energized again after that delicious dinner. Christine placed her bowl back on the table. While doing it, she knocked over a picture. Rusty immediately noticed and grabbed the photo erratically. "Christine! Be careful with that!" Christine jumped back with a surprised expression. She exhaled and noticed the photo frame. The frame was revealed to have a photo of Rusty's family at his brother's graduation ceremony with Mia and Captain by his side. "Is that your brother? Also is that Mia and Captain?" She asked. Rusty turned to her after he put the frame down. He got closer to the Heeler and cleared his throat. "I know your father told you this but the reason why I even play cricket is because of him. He used to play all the time and I always trained to be the best cricket player!" Christine was interested in his story. "Go on." She said quietly. Rusty laid back on his couch before looking at the photo. "You know, he was a pretty good mentor to Mia and Captain. That's why they almost won the annual district tournament!" "Almost?" The Heeler asked. Rusty turned back to her and his face frowned a little bit. "Yeah, during 8th grade he participated in that year's tournament. He was at the finals against Yeller High. His team was about to win the tournament before that fateful moment. There was this kid from Yeller High who was in 7th grade named Dane James. He was the leader of the cricket team at Yeller High and the most fastest. When my brother threw the ball at full speed, he hit the ball with great might and it blasted off into what looked like the atmosphere. It was the hit that won Yeller the game. And then after that, each game my brother's school would lose to the Yellers because of him. Don't forget that Yeller High's team was teasing him, the worst being Dane. But the thing is that he never gave up. Eventually at his last game, he won! And at the day before he left for college, he told me that whatever the circumstances, never give up on the good things you're fighting for because it'll soon be worth it if you keep going!" Christine looked at the photo and felt guilty for pushing it aside. "I'm sorry for knocking it down. Now I know how much that photo is important to you." She exclaimed. "It's okay! You know, I think maybe you should take his words and put it in your mind because it means a lot to me and maybe it'll mean a lot to you too! " Rusty said. Christine smiled and said, "I'll be sure to do that Rusty."
Knock! Knock!
Mackenzie was at the door. Rusty opened it and Christine followed. "Okay mum! I'm gonna play outside!" Rusty said to his mum. "Okay, but do come back at 5:00! Bandit's gonna pick the three of you up!" His mum said. The three got outside and closed the door.
The Challenge
Christine, Mackenzie, and Rusty were walking down the street to Pretzel's house. The house was a few feet away so the journey the was boring for the three. Christine was whistling as she wanted to kill some time. 7 minutes she whistled random notes that came to her mind. Rusty was sighing while rubbing his face. "May you please tone it down?" The red dog said. "Sorry, can't we go faster?" She asked. Rusty turned to her and gave a serious look. Christine backed down and stopped whistling. "I don't think you sound bad. You whistle good. Maybe you could work on controlling yourself a bit." Mackenzie said. "Thanks! I'll try." The Heeler replied. They finally arrived at Pretzel's house. It was a yellow house with 2 floors and a pool. The sprinklers were going off nearly touching the dogs and making them wet. The three reached the front door before Rusty turned around to the group. "I'll knock the door, you know what to say right?" The red dog said. The border collie and Heeler nodded before Rusty knocked the door.
