the case that fell apart

Olivia went home for 2 hours just to shower and check on her daughter. When she walked in it was a little after midnight and giana was asleep on the couch with the TV on playing some late-night comedy show. Olivia turned the TV off and draped a blanket over her daughter and kissed her head.

She went to her bedroom and got in the shower spending extra time to get the filth if Williams words off of her. As she came back out fully dressed she stood in the kitchen just watching her daughter sleep vowing in her mind that she was going to get this guy and that she'd never let anything like that happen to her or her daughter.

After a cup of coffee she decided she didn't want to wake Gia so she left a note on the counter to tell her she had been home and would try to be back later.

Olivia then left and continued with the case against Lewis. She knew they had him dead to right this time. She wasn't going to let him get lucky or slip on a technicality. But over the next 24 hours the case was falling apart.

Lewis had faked a suicide attempt to get out of a line up with Alice. Lewis lawyer was claiming he wasn't competent to stand trial. The squad knew now that Alice was thier last hope.

They had gone to check on Alice since she wasn't answering her phone but when Olivia and the captain got there they found that Alice had died in her sleep due to a heart attack probably brought on by a nightmare of her trauma.

"We can still get him on the rape I mean his dna was all over her apartment." Olivia said.

As the days went on olivia made a few more short trips home just to check on Gia and rest for an hour or so but when she went to the next trial date the lawyer hit hard by saying the dna samples were mishandled.

Olivia was at her desk looking over crime scene photos and files when her phone rang and she answered "svu this is Benson" she shook her head in disbelief and frustration as Rafael told her the judge dropped the case due to the dna being mishandled and no other prominent evidence.

Olivia hung up and said "well there goes the case the judge in all her wisdom said it can't move forward because of dna contamination." Olivia said in a frustrated tone.

"Seriously? But barba is going to retry it right?" Nick said.

"Probably not because the dna was most of our evidence against him." Olivia replied.

"Who wants to come with me and just shoot the son of a bitch?" Amanda said angry.

Fin saw the captain emerge from his office and said "don't worry cap I got this. Come on amanda let's go get a drink. Anyone else want to join while my wallet is open?" He asked.

"Sorry I got to go get Zara from my mom." Nick replied.

"Liv what about you?" Fin asked.

"No I'm gonna stay here and get some work done." She said.

"No you are not. Liv go home spend some time with your daughter and don't come back for atleast 2 days or I'll have you arrested" he half joked.

Olivia tried to fight it but cragen refused so she sighed and headed home.
