The next morning, sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a warm, golden glow over the bedroom. Anupama stirred first, blinking her eyes open and stretching her arms above her head. The events of the previous evening flashed through her mind, bringing a soft smile to her face. Their romantic evening had turned into a full-blown family affair, but even with the unexpected chaos, she felt content. Anuj, lying beside her, was still fast asleep, his features relaxed and peaceful.
For a few moments, she just watched him, her heart swelling with love. Despite the noise and the interruptions from their children and parents, she knew that moments like this—quiet and filled with love—were the ones she would cherish forever.
Deciding not to wake him, Anupama quietly slipped out of bed and padded toward the kitchen. She had promised to make breakfast for everyone today, and with their extended family still in the house, it was bound to be a lively morning. The smell of fresh coffee soon filled the kitchen as she prepared a tray with a small cup for Anuj and tea for herself.
As she worked, she found herself humming softly, enjoying the peacefulness of the early morning before the inevitable chaos of the day began. Just as she was about to carry the tray back to the bedroom, she felt two strong arms wrap around her waist.
"Good morning," Anuj's voice was low and husky, still thick with sleep.
Anupama smiled, leaning back into his embrace. "Good morning," she murmured, turning her head slightly to press a kiss to his cheek.
"You're up early," Anuj noted, resting his chin on her shoulder. "After last night, I figured you'd sleep in a bit."
Anupama chuckled, turning in his arms so she could face him. "There's too much to do today. Besides, I thought I'd let you rest a little longer."
Anuj grinned, pulling her closer. "You're too good to me."
She rolled her eyes playfully but couldn't help the warmth that spread through her at his words. "I just wanted to make sure you had a relaxing morning before the kids wake up and start running around again."
Anuj's eyes twinkled with affection. "You're amazing, you know that?"
Anupama blushed slightly, nudging him playfully. "I try."
He kissed her softly, savoring the quiet moment they shared. But before they could enjoy the peace for too long, the unmistakable sound of footsteps running down the hallway reached their ears.
"Mom! Dad!" Aarav's voice echoed through the house, followed closely by Anu's squeals of excitement.
Anupama and Anuj shared a knowing look before reluctantly pulling apart. "Looks like our little break is over," Anupama said with a sigh, though her smile remained.
"Just when I was starting to think we'd have a moment to ourselves," Anuj joked, running a hand through his hair. But there was no real disappointment in his voice—just the usual blend of amusement and acceptance that came with being parents.
Aarav and Anu burst into the kitchen a second later, their faces flushed with excitement.
"Good morning, Mom! Good morning, Dad!" Aarav greeted them, his energy almost too much to handle so early in the morning.
Anu, not one to be left behind, wrapped her arms around Anuj's leg. "Can we have pancakes for breakfast, Daddy? Please?"
Anuj smiled down at her, ruffling her hair. "Pancakes, huh? I think we can manage that."
Anupama laughed, watching the interaction between her husband and children. These were the moments she loved the most—simple, everyday joys that made her heart swell.
