Chapter 9 The beginning of the First Act

This weird dirty looking child was the Heroine?!

Mei was shocked.

To think this was Ying Lan.

Her whole image of the cold domineering and pure heroine was completely shattered.

Was she not part of a super special and overpowered secret family?

How did she end up in that homeless shelter?

Mei looked up at the child's pitch black crystal look eyes.

It was the exactly how it was described in the book.

Although Ying Lan's childhood was described scarcely, Mei never expected her to live or be like this.

She looked like a vulnerable kitten who wouldn't hurt a butterfly.

Mei collapsed along with her expectations.

So much for this perfect image she had of her.

Mei looked back up at the girl still staring intently at her.

They seemed to be under a misunderstanding, she was not and will never be owned.

But how can she really convey this?

It's not like she was really human anymore.

Nor could she talk.

Mei had a dissapointed stare.

"Host you misunderstand, if you get closer to her you may have an easier time with future missions."

"What do you mean?"

"Certain missions require you to follow certain key points of the story, or to be physically present near the heroine during such events. It really depends. However you lose nothing by becoming a close acquaintance."

Mei thought about it.

Her mission could definitely become easier if she was at least friends with the heroine.

She could prevent darkening events or make certain plot points happen to complete tasks easier.

But then again.

Mei had no idea what is causing this "Darkening Value" to increase.

"System what even is Darkening as a Value?"

"It refers to the level of thoughts permeating the Heroine's mind. Think of it as the opposite of what she normally seems. Kind, pure, and heroic.

Of course certain thoughts may depend. From example, thoughts of theft may increase the Darkening value by a small amount, however more darker actions or thoughts like the thought of mindless killing may increase the Darkening value tenfold."

Mei was stupefied, how on earth did her Darkening value reach 100 percent by the end of the story?...

She had everything she wanted.

And she didn't seem to act like she had lost her mind.

She just seemed normal.

"System can you show me the current Darkening value of the Heroine?"

"I cannot do that at this moment Host."

"Why not"

"I just can't at this moment, please ask me another time later.."
