The best period of my life was the summer of 83. Every person that I loved was still alive, and most of them lived close by. Dee had just started basic training in the army, and I missed him more than I expected, but everyone else was there, and I was meeting good people all the time.
I got my first job as a scorekeeper at the Boys Club, and had money coming in. I could now pay for my friends, instead of my friends paying for me.
This was when the Mall started becoming a big deal, so that's where I went, when we were not at the river or the lake.
I would work with the two sweetest girls ever. Chrystal and Denise. Denise was dating Dee, and Chrystal was her best friend. I'll love them both forever, and will always think of Chrystal when I hear Rebel Yell.
By this time I had gotten a little better with girls, and had started taking them on my first movie dates. Usually it was to see Return of the Jedi, which would always be my favorite of the series because of this.
By this time Candy knew how I felt about her. It had taken years to get the courage to tell her, but once I did I told her every chance that I could.
But she always had a boyfriend.
Even the best times can't be perfect.
