The Trojans

Even though I had great friends, overall middle school was a pretty miserable time for me. I definitely didn't fit in. I was poor in a decade dedicated to getting rich, and I was dirty and ratty in a generation where appearance was becoming everything.

And I was just weird all around.

We were the Jarrett Trojans, and I guess that was pretty cool. But I feel like I was the kind of Trojan that would loose his helmet, and would have to make up an excuse as to what happened.

Living on the edge of town we were the last to get cable, so there wasn't any HBO or MTV yet. The arcade scene was still a year or two away. Music was at an all time low those first couple of years of the 80s before MTV, with nothing playing but wimpy rock and winey love songs.

It was clear pretty quick that I had absolutely no game with the girls. Even the wildest girls from Sherwood Forest would pass me over.

I remember that time as the most boring of my life.

Somebody once said that another name for boredom is depression. I will agree.
