"Equality! Equality! All humans and weres are created equal!" I yell from the top of my lungs, giving away my home-made flyers that I made by myself about species equality to people nearby. I have been doing this since morning in front of the campus, terrorizing the students and other university staffs. But really, I think by this time people will have grown familiar with my antics to care.
When I feel like someone is coming my way, I enthusiastically turn around with another flyer in my hand, ready to be handed out.
"Ouch! Watch out, would you?"
I tsk when I see that it's my best friend, Rosie, who is behind me, "Oh. It's you."
"What do you mean 'oh, it's you'?" You almost hit my nose with your crazy movements," she looks at me in annoyance, "I came here because someone told me that there was a crazy boy screaming equality in front of the library. I should have known that it's you."
"I'm not crazy!" I exclaim while forcing two girls who re passing by to take my flyer, "I'm just doing what you people are too afraid to do!"
"Well, sorry if we're too afraid to make ourselves look mental," she comments dryly as she gives an apologetic smile to the passerby.
"I've told you. I'll defend our kind until we get equality. If I have to look crazy while doing that, it's okay for me."
Rosie, as my friend, has known since we were young about my obsession, my obsession about the oppression of humans at the hands of the weres. It all started when I was in the middle school. Raised in a household which consists entirely of humans, I was pretty naïve back then about the relationship between humans and weres. I just knew that humans and weres have been living side by side for decades.
It all changed when I was in the eighth grade, when I saw by my own eyes a human boy being snatched by a were in the middle of the street. The human boy was screaming and crying, clearly scared out of his wits while the were kept dragging him to his car with force. There were a lot of people in there, yet no one did anything. They pretended not to see it while that human screamed for help.
As I stood in the middle of the street, too shock to move, the human somehow made an eye contact with me, and he probably realized that I was the only who cared about the whole situation. He started screaming even louder, begging me for help. That was when I started running, determined to save him no matter what.
But someone caught me. He put his arms around my waist and prevented me from helping that poor human.
"Let it be. Let it be, boy. We have no right to stop it," he kept whispering those words into my ears as I struggled to get free. Alas, I wasn't strong enough to escape from his clutch. I could only watch helplessly as that human was thrown into the were's car before the car drove away.
I remember I went home and cried for a whole night, the images of that boy crying kept replaying in my mind. I could not sleep, I could not eat. I acted like a walking zombie for a week. When I asked my parents about that, they only told me that's how the world worked. The weres will keep the peace in the society, but they will have the rights to take away any human that they want as an exchange. Oh no, my bad, they don't take just anybody from the street, they only take the humans who are no older than 25.
