After that incident, Vienson and I hardly interacted for a week because he became busier. Manang Lydia told me he's been preoccupied with the rape case he's handling while simultaneously filing a personal case against the mayor-on his own.
The mayor is a difficult opponent because he doesn't play fair. He uses his power and connections, which is why Vienson has to dedicate extra time to fight against that corrupt politician. But it's a good thing he managed to convince those attackers to testify against the mayor's wrongdoings, which is a huge help both for his case and the rape victim's because their testimonies could be considered strong evidence of the mayor's misconduct.
I also found out from the elder maids that Sir Vienson is a famous lawyer in this town. Ever since he graduated from college and passed the licensure examination for law three years ago, he hasn't lost a single case. He always proves himself, earning tons of achievements in his field.
While my tasks became a lot easier without his presence, which I was thankful for. By the next weekend, I was finally able to go home without any interruptions from him.
"Ate Kyla!" Hera squealed in delight when she saw me getting off the boat.
"Hera!" I responded, matching her excitement and happiness. I knelt at her level, hugging her tightly, showing how much I missed her after two weeks of not seeing her because of work.
"Ate, kumusta ka po doon sa mansyon? Bakit ngayon ka lang po nakauwi?" she asked.
"Something came up last weekend, so I wasn't able to go home," I smiled, handing her a paper bag with her favorite fast food logo on it.
"Yey! Jollibee!" she yelped, making me chuckle.
"Ate Kyla!" Hiro called from a distance, running towards us. I smiled and waved as he approached. "Hi, Ate. We missed you po," he said with a grin, and I pulled him into a hug.
"I missed you too, Hiro. By the way, I brought your favorite fast food, so you and Hera can go ahead and eat." I glanced around before asking, "Hiro, where's Papa Henry?"
"Nasa laot pa po siguro si Papa, Ate, nangingisda."
"Oh, what about Mama Mila?"
"Nasa loob po, may kausap na bisita," he replied.
My forehead creased with curiosity. It wasn't every day that someone visited the island. Kami lang ang nakatira rito, and it's such a hassle to come here that we rarely expect visitors. Since the place is isolated, I couldn't help but wonder who it might be.
I walked to the house and entered without announcing my arrival. "Mama Mila, I'm here," I said as I stepped inside. They both turned to look at me-Mama Mila looked surprised, but our visitor remained calm, sitting there with crossed legs and a graceful demeanor as she sipped her tea.
"Kyla, anak, nandito ka na pala," Mama Mila greeted me warmly, standing up to take my backpack. "May bisita ka pala. Maiwan ko muna kayo ha?" She excused herself, and I nodded, my eyes now fixed on the woman who sat majestically on the sofa.
