Ask
🍁🍁🍁Ruth didn't have to wait long after Mahlon left. Her father, in all his strength and honour, found her in the field of roses. Stepping off his carriage, along with his wife Adira, they ran to meet their daughter.
Before she could ask her father, how did you find me? She was engulfed into his warm embrace. His hold on her was tight. He swayed them, left to right, and Adira watched it all, her heart fluttering at the affection displayed.
"Always." Barak said into Ruth's ears, answering the question in her heart, like he always did. " I'll always find you."
They pulled away, and Ruth witnessed the gleaming smile on her father's face. His eyes glazed with tears. "You were...so very beautiful out there. Magnificent! Utterly, magnificent, if angels danced, they'd dance like you. Wasn' t she magnificent, Adira," Barak turned to Adira, who nodded earnestly.
Turning back to Ruth, he stared in awe, as if he was finally seeing his daughter, for who she was. "Ruth, you're dancing, it's," he released a breath of overwhelmed excitement.
Ruth was still stuck on one thing. "You found me." laughter flooded out of her, free. "Again."
He smiled, holding her gaze of utter disbelief and admiration. When Ruth was a girl of two, she'd go crawling everywhere. When she began to walk, she'd hide, traveling far, with her little legs. But no matter where she was or how far she went, her father would always find her. It went on for a while even as she grew, her wit more sharp. She hid from her father and would be in complete hysterics when she was found.
"I did," Barak said, and he brought her in for another hug, this one less desperate, but all the more endearing.
"You didn't wait long, didn't you?"
Ruth thought of how Mahlon was with her, only moments ago, with his brown eyes filled with longing and his touch.
"No." Ruth confessed in a breath. " You came just when I needed you. As always."
When Ruth was embraced by her mother, Adira held on longer, there was not a word shared, except for the silent giving of affection.
"We should go home." Barak said, and he left to start the carriage. They came on, alerting the men who rode the camels that they would be on the move again.
When Adira pulled away from the hug, she kissed Ruth's forehead, and then she paused, staring at her intently.
Ruth's heart skipped a beat.
"You're glowing."
Adira moved some hair away from Ruth's face, her cheeks, were rather flushed, her eyes, they looked-
" Is anything the matter, mother?" Ruth asked.
Adira snapped out of her daze. Slowly, she fixed the yellow veil, Ruth wore, and the shoulder piece of her dress, making a curious humming sound.
"Come Ruth, let's go home. You have much to tell us, like why in Chemosh's name you were running away."
