Dream
🍁🍁🍁

It began in a deep darkness. Pitch black. Then, a heartbeat. The rhythm, constant, and mightily strong, like an echo into the abyss. It's rhythm, a melody of grief, something she'd never be able to dance to because the pain, in its fullness, would melt her bones and pull the strength from her heart.

Ruth stood in the midst of the darkness, unable to see or feel a thing, except to hear the heartbeat that echoed around her. It was quite peculiar as it was not the rhythm of hers. Hers had gone completely silent, like it had always longed to hear this sound. The sound of a heartbeat that felt new and familiar, overwhelming, and more than enough. Like a home she didn't know was hers until now.

-A gasp tore out of her lips, her eyes fluttered open, and she was met with the sight of the bluest sky. There she was, laid on a bed of pure white lilies. The sun's light was warm, radiant upon her skin. If she listened closely, which she did, she could still hear the faint sound of the heartbeat. She wanted to lay there forever, and she did. It felt like forever in a moment. It brought peace upon her soul, one she hadn't ever felt, but it also made her spirit saddened.

White fluffy clouds in the sky shifted slowly, without much of her awareness. She was drowning in the reverie of the moment, then she caught sight of a shape made in the sky.

A question mark.

Ruth squinted, sitting up, but the clouds drifted apart. A white dove flew across the sky above her, circling her, its flight fast yet graceful. It glided against the wind's current.

Sitting up, she felt her surroundings, the greenest grass that met with the lilies, and a few feet away, there was a valley of clear, fresh water. In the distance, something gleamed against the sun's light, almost blinding. It was a treasure chest, and it laid open.

Ruth stood, walking towards the place, barefoot, yet it was quite far, almost unreachable. She felt in her heart, a fire, a flame. She desired the treasure in the distance, so she kept walking.

When she was only three feet away and could clearly see the various gems, the gold, she perceived that there was more, but -

Suddenly, there was a mighty presence behind her, and she could do nothing but be still. She felt the warmth in its fullness, yet somehow she knew there was more. It was as though the sun was behind her, but the light was greater, almost blinding.

Peace overwhelmed her heart. There was this sense of exposure; tears escaped her eyes. It was as though His presence allowed for the pain to be felt in its fullness. A sob tore out of her chest, wiping the tears away, she awaited.

"Ruth," He said her name, with the weight of familiarity, and maybe, even love.

" There is more than you see. Have no part in the delicacies of the King. Ask me,and I will do what you ask. Anything. I tell you, this day, there are eternal treasures that a man can store up."

A breeze blew past her, rippling through her clothes, her skin, her spirit.

"Your desire?"

A silence, settled, anticipation echoed on.

" King Eglon does not know he has no power to grant it. Does not love come from me? Am I not the very fullness of it? Surely, it is granted."

Ruth was a mess of tears. From within her heart, where it bled, where it felt hollow, warmth poured in.

She was brought to her knees, she wanted-needed to turn around and see this person, this man who radiated a blinding light and exposed her emptiness, filling it with warmth. But she couldn't turn.

"Who are you?" She cried.

"I am-"

Ruth awoke.

It was like coming up for air, like the first of many breaths. Her eyes adjusted to the darkness of her room. She swept her gaze around the room and looked for some sort of sign or remnant left from the dream.

Nothing.

Staring at the ceiling, she placed her hand on her heart, it stumped, and stuttered, stuck in awe.

"Who was that?" She whispered, desperate, yet weary to receive an answer.

Still feeling the light, steady thumping of her heart, laughter poured out of her, the sweetest kind, that left a lingering smile on her face and released a breath in the end.

Soon, she heard the word, like a strong feeling in her heart, a truth so deep, it couldn't have come from her.

She spoke into the darkness, knowing that she was heard, she was known, by some great light.

"Let it be as you have said."
