Even when she closed her eyes, Naomi could still feel his stare on her. It was infuriating, yet at the same time, it made her flush red. Surrounded by a dozen women, with vessels that they drew water with, Elimilek's eyes remained on her, barely ever drifting. In a conversation with his big group of friends, they noticed how distracted he was, turning to meet his line of vision. Naomi looked down, face beet–red, her long brown hair covering it.

She heard the sound of rambunctious laughter coming from the young men. It sounded as though they were teasing him.

"That young man is smitten by you,"  one of her friends said.

"Like every young man is towards any female species they see, breathing." Naomi argued, making her friends laugh.

"He's probably smitten by all of us," Naomi added. Even though it was quite obvious, his gaze was completely directed at her. If she moved left, his eyes would move as well.

"He's a shepherd boy. They make good lovers." Another one of her friends said.

"Oh hush!" Naomi giggled, her face flushing red, still feeling his stare on her.

Later that day, when all her friends had left, carrying their vessels of water with them, Naomi lingered behind. Pulling water from the well, Naomi hummed her favorite melodies, a peace falling over her heart.

As she was gathering her filled vessels, she noticed him approaching.

Her heart stuttered. He was all alone and besides that, for about a year, he only took to staring at her, it was only recently, she found out his name was Elimilek.

"Shalom." Elimilek greeted, standing before her, in all his glory. He was a tall young man, his body lean, like many of the shepherd boys, yet his eyes, a normal brown, held a strength she was captured by.

"Shalom." Naomi greeted.

And then he smiled, like the dawn breaking forth, a twinkle in his eyes, despite herself, she smiled too, her cheeks hot, her heart warmed. She held his gaze, for some reason, not shying away like she normally did.

"Allow me into your life." Elimilek said.

Naomi laughed, her heart fluttering.

"What?"

Elimilek was the one to flush red, looking upwards, as if begging Yawheh for help. At this, she smiled.

"Allow me into your life, Lady Naomi." And he met her eyes again, a spark within the depths of his.

"Why?" She asked, pressing him.

A pause ensued. In it, she allowed herself to breathe, her heart calmed but only slightly. It was as if the star she'd been admiring for so long, from afar, was standing before her, shining, an awe that her heart could not contain. It was in that moment she could safely confess to herself that for all this time, she was staring at him too.

How could anyone not, she thought?

He was a wonder.

"Because you've made me happy." Elimilek answered.

She raised her brows.  "This is the first time we're talking."

Elimilek chuckled.  "I know, yet simply staring at you throughout the day has been enough to make me happy.." Again, he flushed red.
