"The fairy lights are supposed to be in the backyard bhaiya! Not on the gates!"

Meher was exhausted. It was her brother-in-law, Aarav's wedding.

Aarav was 3 years younger to Atharv and had fought toe and nail with his parents to get married to the love of his life, Divya.

This made Meher wonder often how Atharv might have fought for his love too.

Meher still felt a pang in her chest everytime she wondered about her marriage in crisis.

Almost five years ago, Meher has decided to stay. For she had no other choice.

Meher was orphaned when she was as young as seven years old. It was her father's sister who had adopted the little girl crying beside her parents' pyre.

Her aunt had been nothing but supportive and loving. She never made Meher excluded from her family.

But Meher knew about the financial disparity his uncle was worried about. That was the prime reason as to why Meher never mentioned ger higher education to her aunt and uncle. She passed her matriculation and her high school from a government school and had decided to get married rather than burden her aunt.

Lowkey, she wanted a family of her own. A loving husband, some cute kids and maybe a dog in the future.

Meher shook her head to get rid of the thoughts. Thinking about the past or the future was vain. All she had to concentrate was on the present. She had to take ine day at a time.

"But Atharv bhaiya wanted me to put the fairy lights on the gate, bhabhi." The worker replied.

Listening to her husband's name, Meher's heart skipped a beat. She did not argue further.

She marched towards the store room, picked up a bunch of fairy light threads and then marched towards the backyard.

She loved the backyard. She had spent hours in the gardens, tending to the little flowers and bushes. Under no circumstances will she let the backyard not look like it was anything less than heaven.

Meher dropped the fairy lights on the ground as she proceeded to look for the nearest circuit board. She was independent enough to work on the electrical aspects.

Wrapping the lights around various rocks and walls and pillars in the garden, Meher marched towards the dining table to bring a chair. She couldn't reach the top of the backyard gate and thus needed an advantage in height.
