"Divya is really pretty!"
"You got really good daughter-in-laws!"
"Why don't you help me find a daughter-in-law too, Nisha?"
The compliments reverberated in the room as Meher and Nisha served drinks to the women who had been in the house for the past hour.
Divya had been sitting on the swing decorated for her muh-dikhai, with a broad and genuine smile on her face. Every now and then, she had been looking towards the kitchen with a light blush on her face, undoubtedly at her husband.
Meher smiled at their interactions. She was really elated to watch a relationship fester between her brother-in-law and sister-in-law that she could only dream to have.
"The next function in the Sharma house would be a godbharai!" The ladies giggled.
"When are you guys inviting us for Meher's godbharaiNisha?" Atharv's bua asked in a genuine excitement.
Meher froze by the kitchen door as numerous eyes trailed upto her.
"It's been really long since you got married, isn't it?" Another lady asked.
"Five years, aunty." Meher replied politely pasting a really fame smile on her face.
"I had two kids already by the time I completed five years of my marriage!" Another woman verbalized.
"I hope everything is okay with Meher. I mean she isn't infertile right?" She heard a whisper.
Meher chewed on her lips to calm down her furiously beating heart. She flashed a smile of reassurance to her worried mother in law before she excused herself to the kitchen.
Running straight to her room from the hall, she shut the door behind her with a thud.
At the particular moment, she was happy about the absence of her husband. She couldn't have handled looking at him without bursting into flames.
Walking straight to the balcony, she perched herself on the deewan in the balcony. Bringing her legs up on the couch, she hugged her knees to her chest as she kept her chin on her arms.
Meher began wondering about a child. Just like how she did when she was a teenager with millions of dreams and a huge crush on a man who didn't spare her a glance.
