Meher's eyes widened at her mother-in-law's question while Atharv clenched his eyes close in frustration.

His parents had been dropping the hints here and there while conversing with him. But judging his wife's expression, he was sure she had never been confronted with this awkward topic.

Nisha's eyebrows furrowed at her children's reactions.

"I would have not been surprised if you guys looked at me like this if I had asked for a grandchild immediately after your marriage. I would have understood you guys are still awkward around each other and want to know each other and yada yada." Nisha began.

"But it's been five years, beta. Haven't you planned for children yet?" Nisha softly asked Meher.

Meher, baffled by the sudden question kept mum as her mother-in-law rambled on about their marriage and to her utter horror.. children.

Planning a child? She had never even shook her hands with her husband.

"Meher! Please go and find my pink shirt for me?" Atharv interjected, deciding it was enough for Meher today. He never imagined his mother being so upright about the topic. Especially when Meher was visibly uncomfortable.

Meher nodded in her haze as she scurried away from the kitchen with a severe heart palpitation.

Atharv and his mother's gaze followed Meher out of the kitchen.

"Is she shy?" Nisha mumbled. "Or is she already pregnant?" Nisha exclaimed.

"No, maa." Atharv sighed out. "And please don't raise this topic again."

"Why? Is something wrong?" Nisha was worried now. "Is Meher okay? Can she conceive? Or is there something wrong with you?" Nisha rambled out the questions.

Atharv's cheeks adopted a pink tint as he heard his mother's question.

"Everything is fine. Me and Meher both are fine." Maybe.

"And if you really want a baby, ask Aarav and Divya. Or better, adopt one." Atharv remarked and moved out of the kitchen.

As awkward as it was for Meher to have her mother-in-law ask her the questions she had never anticipated, the conversation had sowed a seed in Meher's mind.

It was a far fetched dream to have a family of her own for Meher now. But a dream nonetheless.

'Tonight. Tonight, for the first time after years, I'll allow myself to day dream. To imagine. To wonder what would happen if I ever have a baby. Or many babies.' Meher closed her eyes as the words played in her mind.

A knock broke her out of the reverie. Meher knew who it was. There was only one person who had the decency to knock on the door in the house- her husband. Ironically, he was the only one who had the freedom to get into the room without any kind of permission.
