"Ferris-Ferris"
"Maeve?"
"Tom!"
Mutters about the state of us could be heard by both of us from outside our shared bedroom. Our two overconcerned parents looking at the silhouettes lying in their respective beds.
"Ferris, Maeve?" Our father questions, looking down at us. "They don't have a fever, but they are both saying their stomachs hurt and they are seeing spots!"
"What's the matter Maeve?" He looked at me questioning.
"Daddy? Is that you?" l reached out to take my dads hands, flinching as he instantly drops them upon contact.
"You felt her hands, Ferris's are the same; cold and clammy"
"We're fine Papa, let's get up Mae." He looks at me, expecting me to give the same energy. We are twins and all, telepathic, I suppose. Our shoulders lift off the bed only to be instantly pushed back down forcefully.
"No!"
"We have a test today!" Ferris says looking the most exited he ever has been for school. And Ferris despises school, so I know today is going to be good.
"No!" My mother says forcefully." You... both of you are staying in bed, that is final."
"We have to take it! Jones will make us retake it if we fail!"
"Yeah! We want to go to good colleges so we can have fruitful lives!"
"I'll call the school Maeve don't worry. And Ferris, you too! You can both take the test another time. Now rest."
Our eyes flicked to the door, only to see our older sister, Jeanie, stomping her foot looking appalled. Jeanie never did truly like our plans, I theorised with Ferris that it was simply because she felt left out, having to live her boring life without the fun of a built-in best friend.
"Oh fine. What's their problem?"
"They don't feel well." Our mother replied to her oldest daughter as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Yeah, right." My eyes widened tremendously, praying that our sisters untrusting nature wouldn't bust their undefined plans.
"Dry that one out, you could fertilize the lawn."
"Jeanie, Jeanie, my dear sister is that you? My vision is too blurry to see your beautiful face." I responded, acting oblivious to my sister's torment. I dramatically fell back against her pillow, breathing erratically.
"Bite the big one junior." She sarcastically remarks, flipping us both off discretely before receiving a giant wink from Ferris.
Our parents loudly argue with Jeanie until she storms out, leaving the four of us alone and pulling aggressively out of the driveway.
"I hope she isn't upset with us Mae; she has her health; she should be grateful!" He says throwing me a look before groaning and licking his palms as he wails and moans.
"You two will be fine! Just sleep, maybe an aspirin around noon." Our father says as he pulls my blanket up and our mother mirrors on Ferris.
"Now, listen, I'm showing some houses to the family from Vermont today, so I'll be in the area. Now my office will know exactly where I am if you need me, ok? Thats for both of you." She loving rubs her sons face, as he agrees.
"It's nice to know that we have such loving, caring parents." Our parents smile in a weird synchrony. "You're both very special people." He made gibberish sounds at the two before clacking his teeth tighter and shutting his eyes.
