We make our way down the street, Ferris and Sloane up the front, Ferris with an arm around her, and Cameron and I trailing behind, hands interlocked.
"Hey, look at that." Ferris points up to a tall building, with the rest of us following him towards it. We all entered the building, making our way to the elevator. Ferris and Sloane entered first, we followed, finding there was not as much space as it appeared. My back pushed against the wall, Camerons front finding me.
His looked into my hazel eyes with a certain gleam, using his hands to push the stray curls out of my face. He continued to look down, as my face tilted up to look at him, a light flush still coating his cheeks. The final ding of the elevator went off and as I realised the door were closing on us a hand flew through, reopening them. Sloane and Ferris shared knowing grins before walking over to the windows of the tall building. I gulped.
"You alright Mae?" Cameron asked me as the colour drained out of my face. My feet stopped moving and my eyes screwed shut as I looked out the window and was met with sky.
"I... I don't really like heights." I whispered.
"Oh, come on Maeve, I thought you got ever this in the 7th grade." Ferris joked, not making me feel any better. Cameron grabbed my hand softly.
"Mae, you can keep your eyes shut, but we are going to walk towards the window, ok? Trust me, you're going to be fine." He put hand around my waist, guiding me toward the window as my eyes remained closed.
"Here, climb up on this." I hear shuffling of feet and what I assume is Ferris and Sloane climbing onto the railing I was holding onto for dear life. Cameron remained on the ground, his arm still around me. I open my eyes slowly only to be met with Camerons.
"You can look, it's totally safe. And I got you, see?" He squeezed my waist as a looked out onto the city.
"Come on, everybody." Ferris pleaded, trying to pull me and Cameron onto the railing with him. Cameron looked expectingly and held his hand out, to assist me to climb up onto the rails. I begrudgingly agreed, my heart pounding. Cameron joined me on the railing, never letting go of my hand.
"Ok, now, lean forward against the glass like this." His head made a donking sound and he pushed his forehead against the window. Sloane followed and after a second so did Cameron and I.
"Isn't that great?"
"The city looks so peaceful from up here." Sloane muttered.
"Anything is peaceful from 1353 feet."
"I think I see my dad."
"I think I'm going to vomit on your dad."
"We got a lot to do, let's go."
"Shit. The son of a bitch is down there somewhere."
Cameron makes random gestures with his hands, seemingly mocking the people that we are watching do their jobs.
"So, what's going on with you and Cameron, Maeve?" Sloane askes, looking at the boys watch into the pit of people. "I saw you two in the car. You were straddling the poor boy. Looked like he was about to burst a blood vessel trying not to get a boner." She whispered the last bit, and I slapped her on the shoulders while I burst into a fit of laughter.
"Nothing like that is happening like that Sloane, he doesn't like me like that. Why would he?" I asked, cowering into the end of my sentence.
"Because you're hot, that's why! And because you're nice, and funny, and smart and caring. You should talk to him about it. He would agree with me about everything." She says back to me, not a waiver of confidence in her voice.
