Cameron, Ferris and I open a sliding door to Camerons father's garage. Ferris looks at the car inside like he wants to marry it, Cameron looks at the car like he wants to cry. I interlock our fingers, sensing whatever my brother has planned is going to need moral support.
"The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California." Ferris licks his lips and looks back at the red car sat in the spotless driveway. "Less than a hundred were made. My father spent three years restoring this car. It is his love; it is his passion..."
"It is his fault he didn't lock the garage." Ferris walks towards the car as me and Cameron remain still by the door.
"Ferris, what are you talking about?" I ask as Ferris leans softly against the car, only letting his fingertips touch it.
"Ferris, my father loves this car more than life itself."
"A man with priorities so far out of whack he doesn't deserve such a fine automobile."
"I have to agree with Ferris on this on Cam."
"No. No." Ferris moves to walk around the car as Cameron approaches leaving me stood still at the door. "Apparently you don't understand."
"Wow." Ferris gives a chef kiss, in awe of the car's beauty.
"Ferris, he never drives it. He just rubs it with a diaper." Ferris ignores Cameron once again rubbing his finger against the car as he runs around it.
"Hey Maeve, remember how insane he went after I broke my retainer?" He was staying over at our place when Ferris tried to put Camerons retainer on the dog and it broke. We didn't see Cameron for over a month after that.
"Come on Ferris, that was a little piece of plastic, this is a Ferrari, let's just take Camerons car." I say, trying make Ferris change his mind.
"Che Bella!" Ferris responds, giving another chef's kiss before moving closer to Cameron.
"Cameron, I'm sorry. But we can't pick up Sloane in your car. Mr Rooney would never believe Mr Peterson drives that piece of shit."
"Ferris, we don't even have a piece of shit, don't be mean for no reason." I retort at my brother, trying to get him to be rational.
"Yeah Cameron, like Maeve said, we don't even have a piece of shit, I have to envy yours."
"That was so not my point Ferris!" I say frustratedly. Cameron ignores my comments, knowing I only meant well.
"Oh, thanks." He responds to Ferris sarcastically.
"Look, I'm sorry, there's nothing else we can do." Ferris slides into the car carefully while Cameron looks at him with an appalled look.
"There are so many other things we can do!" I yell.
"He knows the mileage, Ferris."
"He doesn't trust you?" He says sarcastically.
"No shit Ferris." Cameron shakes his head at Ferris.
"Never has, never will."
"Look, this is real simple. Whatever miles we put on; we'll take off."
"And how do you expect to do that?" I scoff, waiting for whatever bullshit plan he has.
"We'll drive home backwards." He says genuinely. Cameron tilts his head back erupting in a fake laugh.
"No." Ferris turns the key starting the engine, before Cameron and I yell at him to stop being an Idiot.
"How about we rent a nice Cadillac?" Ferris pulls up Infront of me, while I remain unmoving. "My treat!" Cameron yells at Ferris. "We could call a limo! A nice stretch job with a TV and a bar. How about that?"
