Camp Half-Blood had never felt so alive during the winter months. The entire camp was draped in holiday decorations—celestial bronze ivy wrapped around the cabins, enchanted mistletoe hovering above doorways, and glowing magical lights twinkling like stars in the trees. The snow, brought in by the nymphs and dryads, blanketed the camp in a serene white sheet, making it look more like a winter wonderland than a training ground for demigods.
The demigods, though used to more chaotic events, had thrown themselves into the holiday spirit with gusto. Percy watched as Leo darted around the camp, adding last-minute enhancements to the Christmas lights, making them flicker in multi-colored sparks of magic. Jason and Piper were helping set up a massive pine tree near the fire, while Frank and Hazel were overseeing a sled race with the younger campers.
Chiron, in his human form for the occasion, stood near the big tree with Grover and Nico, observing the festivities with a soft smile. Grover was happily munching on a wreath made of strawberries while Nico watched everything from the shadows, his usual reserved self, though there was a hint of relaxation on his face.
Hermione, Luna, and Neville had already been at Camp Half-Blood for a few days, having spent time learning about the camp's history and helping with preparations for the Christmas celebration. Hermione, in particular, had been fascinated by the camp's magical wards and the way the demigods seamlessly balanced their divine heritage with their mortal lives.
As Percy wandered toward the campfire, he spotted Hermione with Luna and Neville, both bundled in warm coats as they admired the enchanted Christmas tree that Leo had just added magical flames to.
"It's like Hogwarts, but... different," Hermione mused, her eyes wide with fascination. "The magic here feels more ancient."
Neville nodded, looking around in awe. "It's amazing how peaceful it feels here, considering how much danger you all face."
Luna, true to form, was gazing dreamily at the floating mistletoe. "I've never seen mistletoe enchanted with celestial bronze before. I bet it keeps away the Wrackspurts."
Percy chuckled as he approached them, the sight of Hermione smiling at Luna's comment warming his heart. It was nice seeing her so at ease in Camp Half-Blood, a place that had always been so important to him.
Before the conversation could continue, Annabeth made her way over to the group. She had been helping organize the holiday festivities but had been keeping her distance from Percy and Hermione since their last tense encounter. Now, though, she forced a smile as she joined them.
"Welcome, everyone," Annabeth said, her voice polite but lacking its usual warmth. Her eyes flicked briefly to Percy, then to Hermione, and it was clear the tension between them was still unresolved.
As the day went on, the Weasleys and wizards continued to settle in, sharing stories with the demigods, and a strange but welcome camaraderie began to form between the two worlds. Leo and Fred were already exchanging ideas for magical pranks, while Grover and Luna had bonded over their love of magical creatures.
Later that evening, as the campfire roared to life and Chiron began telling old stories about demigod heroes, Percy found himself sitting next to Hermione by the fire. The warmth of the flames mixed with the glow of the enchanted lights made the moment feel almost surreal. Despite the chaos of their lives—battles with monsters, the looming threat of Voldemort and Kronos—this felt like a rare moment of peace.
As they sat in silence for a while, Percy glanced at Hermione, who was staring into the fire, her face soft with contentment. "So, what do you think? Not too bad for a demigod camp, right?"
Hermione smiled, turning to meet his gaze. "It's wonderful, Percy. Really. I can see why this place means so much to you."
Their eyes lingered on each other for a moment, the connection between them stronger than ever. Percy's heart thudded in his chest, and he felt that familiar warmth he always did when he was around her. He wondered if Hermione felt it too—the way everything seemed to slow down when they were together.
