Gen's thoughts drifted back to the man who was her mate. He was way better looking than she'd expected. It was intimidating. She seriously couldn't believe how good he looked, though maybe she was just biased because he was her mate. Was that the way it worked? She had no idea.
She wanted to ask Aidan about her mate, but she had no idea who he was or if Aidan would know him. But then, this was his pack; he probably did know the man she was fated to. Gen hadn't gotten a good look at him, though. Not like she didn't have his face memorized. She scoffed inwardly. She knew exactly what he looked like. How gorgeous he was. Her mate was hot, and she was well aware of it.
The elevator stopped, and they all got off and headed down the hall, stopping in front of a door. It opened a moment later to a beautiful woman in a long skirt and bare feet, her movements making a tinkling sound. She gave them all a big smile. "Aidan!"
"Hey Jessie."
"This is your mate?" Her gaze flicked to Ana.
"Yes, this is Ana, and her sister, Gen." He pointed to each of them in turn.
"Welcome! Come on in," she said.
Gen followed them all inside, feeling a bit nervous. She has never met so many people before in such a short amount of time. They all were starting to blend together in her mind, too. There was no way she was going to remember them all, either.
The apartment had hardwood floors and was decorated in bright colors and soft cushions. Gypsy, Gen thought as she looked around. Jessie seemed to embrace that look. She kind of liked it.
Jessie led them down the hall and into a room that was set up like a salon. She stopped in front of a salon chair and moved the cape out of the way with a flourish. "Have a seat, Gen."
Gen settled down in it, her gaze darting to her sister and Aidan, who had made themselves comfortable on a couch off to the side. Jessie draped the cape over her and then turned her attention to Gen's hair. "So, what do you want done?"
"Um, I don't know?" She hadn't expected all of this to happen so quickly. Hairstyles weren't something she ever really paid attention to simply because most of the time, she just didn't have any. Or what she had was too short for her to do anything with.
Jessie turned the chair so that she was facing the mirror and pulled Gen's hair out of the bun before lightly running her hands through it. "You have amazing hair. Nice and thick, but it definitely needs some shape. When was the last time you had it cut?"
She never thought the words "amazing hair" would ever be said to her. Gen swallowed, not really wanting to answer that question. "Eight months ago."
"That long?" Jessie asked, raising an eyebrow at her in the mirror.
Was she judging? "Yes." She took a deep breath, knowing she was going to have to be honest with this woman and let her in on her crappy secrets. "My father shaved my head then."
Jessie's lips parted. "Oh. Was that what you were into?"
Was that what she was into? Really? But she couldn't blame Jessie for asking her that. She didn't know the first thing about Gen. "No. That's not what I was into."
Jessie eyed her quietly, still running her hands through Gen's hair. "Can I ask why then?"
"Because it was either that or let it all fall out." Genevieve dropped her gaze, not wanting to see the pity in the woman's eyes. "Before I started chemo."
Jessie grew quiet, causing Gen to look up. She was looking at Aidan and Ana. She finally looked back at Gen, and she could see the concern in the other woman's eyes. Mind link, Gen realized, still having a hard time wrapping her head around it. "So you haven't always been a werewolf?"
