Gen sat, staring out the front windshield of the SUV as she watched Aidan disappear into the shadows. She could still make him out and watched Caleb walk over to him. The two talked for a moment before heading towards the farmhouse. Gen bit her lip, hugging her arms around herself. She really hoped Lincoln was okay.
'He's immortal, Gen,' Jules reminded her.
'I know,' Gen responded. She was still worried, though.
All of a sudden, the driver's side window of the SUV broke, freaking out Gen and causing her to scream. She stared at the man who was trying to get in, and before she knew what had happened, Jules had taken control and released her aura. The man disappeared, dropping down next to the SUV.
Aidan suddenly appeared, and the next thing she knew, she was back in control, and Aidan was opening her door, his arms around her as she took several deep breaths. "Shhh. It's okay. He can't hurt you."
She held back the tears that were threatening to fall, taking in several deep breaths. "Who was that?"
"I don't know. He can't hurt you, Gen," Aidan told her.
"Is he dead?" she asked.
"Yes."
Gen looked at Aidan. He'd killed someone for her. She bit her trembling lip.
"You did well. You're safe," he said.
"My wolf took control," she mumbled.
"That's okay. She did it to protect you. That guy would have tried to kill you. He wouldn't have succeeded. I heard the window break and your scream. You're okay, Gen," Aidan said softly.
"Thank you," she whispered.
"Of course."
Gen jumped as the sound of a gunshot filled the air, followed quickly by a second one. Aidan pulled back, and his head whipped towards the house. "What's happening?"
"Hold on," he said.
She sat there tense, waiting for something. Anything.
It took several long, tense moments, but then Aidan turned to look at her. "Everything is okay. Come on." He stepped back.
Gen climbed out of the vehicle and followed Aidan up to the house.
He stopped and turned back to her. "Gen, Linc has been shot. He'll be fine, but I need you to know that before we walk in. He's asleep. We'll get him home. His body has already healed up. The bullet went right through him."
"He got shot?" Gen asked in shock.
"Yeah. There were two people in the room with him. Gina and some guy. He shot Linc and Gina both. She's dead, and we killed the guy. Dominic and Ragnar searched the place, and no one else was here." Aidan looked up as the door opened and Ragnar walked out, Linc slung over his shoulder.
"We're heading home. Dominic and Caleb are cleaning up the mess with some of the pack members. We're going to get Linc home," Ragnar said.
"Sounds good," Aidan agreed.
Gen breathed a small sigh of relief, glad she wasn't going inside the house. She wasn't sure she wanted to see any dead bodies. Her gaze traveled over Lincoln, and she felt her heart ache.
Ragnar put him in the backseat, and Aidan opened the door for her. Ragnar grunted. "Too big."
Aidan snorted. "You okay sitting back here with him?"
"Yes. How long will he sleep?" Gen asked as she crawled in and pulled Lincoln's head into her lap.
Aidan crawled into the front passenger seat while Ragnar crawled behind the wheel. "Probably until tomorrow morning," Aidan told her.
