Maria woke up in the middle of the night to drink some water, she was so exhausted from yesterday but also happy that her family and friends didn't leave her all alone in her special day.
it was her quince shes been looking forward to this day ever since she was 12, but she thought it was all messed up celebrating big without the boy she shared a birthday with.
talking about the boy she shared a birthday with, today is his birthday.
his first birthday without him being here. Maria stared at the bottle of water she took a sip from and thought how the same exact boy she was planning their birthdays together was gone.
she felt her stomach flip upside down about the thought of nottis death. she still doesn't believe which is why she doesn't think of it.
she goes back into her room and sits in her bed grabbing her phone. she left her phone on dnd—because she wanted to celebrate her special day with her family.
she saw how many people texted her more 'happy birthday' messages she scrolled through the preview not caring about the same repeated messages—until one caught her eyes. She taped on the message, and she felt her whole body tense.

she felt guilty. guilty for not texting or speaking to them ever since she left nyc. she didn't have a choice though, she left her whole life there in just a day with not even one goodbye.
