"I'm confused," I echo as soon as my butt touches the chair I'm sitting down on.
"Why?" Zara wonders as she pops a chip in her mouth.
"I..." I try to find my words to describe the puzzlement my brain is processing. "I thought you were the same person..." I finally say, unfazed by how freely I'm exposing myself right now.
Zara frowns while her mouth turns into a sideways grin.
"You really thought we were one person?" One of the boys titters, which I then find out it's Adryel, sitting next to my new girl friend. "That's hilarious."
"I don't blame you, if you don't actually see the two of us in the same room you wouldn't think there's two," the other triplet, Jyran, remarks while eating chips out of a bag.
I smile, grateful that they haven't found me weird for sharing my thoughts aloud. Now that my confusion has been acknowledged, I wonder who was who when I met them for the first time; at the football pitch on my first day of school and that random Wednesday when I read my book while one of them read his.
I guess the book placed right next to Joran's food is a dead giveaway. But if Adriel's the one who I met first on the pitch, then that must mean he knows my twin brothers too, as he was playing with them.
Maybe they'll be okay with me befriending these boys then. If they're friends, that means they're nice people.
"Did you finish the book you were reading?" Jyran inquiries while gazing at me. His siblings give him a strange look.
I nod, feeling the intense stares of the triplets on me. "I've started the thrift one in the series." I want to ask him if he finished his, to prolong this conversation a bit more so as to not leave him with a dry respond, but Zara beats me to it.
"Wait, you two know each other?" Her hand sneaks into his brother's chips and he lightly smacks her hand to turn her away. She glares at me but then shifts her attention back to me, expectantly.
"We read our books together during recess once."
Zara's mouth makes the shape of an 'O' and then pursues her lips and turns to her triplet. "I've just gotten you a reading companion. You're welcome, you nerd."
"Thanks," Jyran mocks her, rolling his eyes and then winking at me. I grin widely, feeling an unknown sense of belonging fill me.
"What language classes are you taking?" Adryel suddenly speaks up, not meeting my eyes while saying his question.
"Just English and Spanish," I tell him, then rethink my answer and add. "I'm half Spanish but my sister never taught me the language so now my brothers are forcing me to learn it," I ramble. "I think I'm failing already, everybody in my class's got at least some knowledge of the language."
