"Luke, why don't you and Michael go find a place to eat lunch and we'll meet up with you later." My mom asked me with her motherly tone, I knew I wasn't going to be able to get out of it now.
I nodded at my mothers words, and started walking to my favorite place to go when I was younger. Michael came here once with me when we were younger, but he's never been a fan of nature. Even then when we were inseparable he wouldn't dare join us on our hiking adventures, he would be appalled that I'd even ask him. Which looking back on it now I should've dragged him along anyways.
Finding the small picnic table in a small secluded area in the mists of the redwood trees. It was beautiful and I could help but admire it before sitting down on the wooden bench.
"Wow." I heard Michael gasp.
I didn't say anything back, turning around and laying the food my mother gave me out on the table for us to eat. There were sandwiches and chips. I noticed she labeled the baggies they were in and I didn't know whether to laugh or cry that she remembered Michael's favorite sandwich and she still gets mine wrong.
I handed Michael his sandwich, he grabbed out of my hand before opening it and digging into his lunch right away. "Your mom actually remembered my favorite sandwich?" Michael asked me, bewildered by the thought of someone remembering something as small as his favorite sandwich.
Of course it wasn't a complicated thing to remember; white bread, mayo and mustard only on one side, four slices of turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, and bacon. There's nothing crazy about remembering a sandwich like that.
I took a bite of my tuna salad grimacing at the taste. Chicken salad is what I love, something so simple but easily forgotten with my mother when all she focuses on is Michael since he's been back. I know she wants something to happen between us, not like it will.
"She's good at remembering things." I shrugged.
"Then why are you eating tuna salad?" Michael grinned cheekily. "Everyone knows you hate tuna, I bet the president even knows since you used to complain about it every godforsaken day at school when they served it in the cafeteria."
"Who would want to serve this disgusting shit to little children." I gagged at the memories, but here I was with tuna salad right in front of me waiting to be throw into the woods.
"It's not that bad. You're so overdramatic, Lukey." He laughed, taking a bit of his food.
I watched him take bite after bite before Michael noticed me staring at him eating, raising an eyebrow he held out the other half of his uneaten sandwich to me to eat. It was tempting. I starting feeling a bit sick at the thought of us doing this years ago when we thought it meant nothing, now it means so much more. I shook my head no and starting eating my bag of cheetos, avoiding eye contact with him.
"Luke c'mon w-" My phone started ringing loudly interrupting Michael. "It's Ashton!" I squealed, jumping off the wooden bench to talk to my boyfriend. I looked over to Michael to see his shoulders visibly slumping and he grumbled some inaudible words before he continued to eat.
"Ashy!" I giggled into my phone, it's been a few days since I had a chance to talk to him and I couldn't wait to hear about all the gigs they've played so far.
"How's my baby boy doing?"
"I'm doing okay. I'm at Muir Woods with my family and Michael today.." I explained, leaning up against a tree.
"Michael?" He questioned sounding a bit confused.
"Yeah, my mom invited him. Y'know how she is."
"I think it's great, though. You need more friends than just Calum. And you guys have known each for years so it'll be good for you Lukey."
"You're sounding like my mom now." I huffed. I looked over to Michael and he was watching me, not in a creepy way, but more that he was curious as to why his name was being mentioned in a conversation with my boyfriend.
"Sorry," Ashton muttered, his voice sounding muffled through the phone.
"So," I said, changing the direction of the conversation. "How's the gigs going babe?"
Ashton giggled. Confused at his laughter I got quite and I heard another voice in the background and hushed whispers. "Hey I'm going to have to call you back Luke."
"What why-"
"Bye!"
I frowned, pulling the phone away from my ear. The voice inside my head telling me that wasn't just another band mate with him. The gut wrenching feeling was taking over my body before slid down the tree and folding into myself.
Michael was rushing over in no time. He crouched down beside me worried about my well being, "What's wrong? Are you okay? What did Ashton say?"
"He didn't say anything. But the voice I heard in the background was enough for me to know. I think he's cheating on me, and while he was on the phone with me." I shouted, angry tears toward Ashton flowing freely down my face.
