"What's this?" I asked mostly to myself. Michael followed closely behind as I walked over to a small girl in my grade passing out flyers to all the students walking by. She smiled at me and gave me the overly photoshopped photo with 'Homecoming' in bright blue letters printed on the front. "I forgot all about this."

Michael peered over my shoulder and looked at the flyer in my hand. "Oh, a dance!" He smiled, grabbing the paper and looking at the date. "We should go, Luke. Get all fancy, take cliché pictures, go out to dinner beforehand, and then sneak out of the dance early and drive somewhere secluded, then you suck me off in the back of my car." Michael said smugly, he folded up the paper and shoved it into his back pocket while he made our way to lunch.

"Just because you got your license and a car before doesn't mean I'll suck you off in it." I rolled my eyes at him.

Ever since the weekend at the music festival everything has been going great for us. We've spent the past month going out to movies and on small adventures we always said we'd do when we're older. Michael attempted to surf and ended up getting stung by a jellyfish and I had to pee on him. He won't even step foot in the ocean in fear of me having to pee on his leg again if a jellyfish decided to come close.  Michael also ended up with a second degree sunburn which left me rubbing aloe vera on his back all week.

"'Course you will, you can't resist me baby!"

"Who said I'd even go with you? You have to ask me first. I expect something mind blowing because I hate school dances so this proposal better be worthwhile." I told him. Michael sent me a small glare but reached for my hand as we walked into the cafeteria and dodged the food line and sat down with Calum.

"What's up with Michael's constipated look?" Calum quizzically asked, tilting his head to his side. Michael rubbed his face in irritation and scrolled through his phone looking for something.

"I told him he better ask me to homecoming in the most mind blowing way and now he's googling things because he's clueless."

"I bought Abigail a bag of chocolate and flowers and she was okay with that. You're too high maintenance, Luke." Calum chuckled, throwing a cold french fry at me. I picked it up off the ground, throwing it back at my best friend.

"I got it!" Michael exclaimed, interrupting our small food fight.

"Got what?"

"You'll just have to wait and see lil Lukey." He smiled smugly, tugging me close and pressing a chaste kiss to my cheek.

"Michael it's midnight, why are you throwing socks at my window?" I sleepily asked, I ran my fingers through my messy blond locks and looked at my boyfriend who was grinning from ear to ear with a notebook in hand.

"Can I come over?" I nodded and laid back down while waiting for him to climb up the latter we put outside our windows. Now we didn't have to risk our lives each time we wanted to sneak into each other's rooms in the middle of the night.

Michael came toppling over the windowsill and climbed into bed with me. He moved around for a minute, desperately trying to get comfortable when he gave up and decided straddling my hips were a much better plan than laying next to me.

"Do you need something?" I asked curiously, staring up at my boyfriend.

"Actually, I do." He reached for the battered up notebook he dropped on the bed and opened the first page. Michael cleared his throat before he started speaking. "Luke Hemmings, will you do the honor of accompanying me to this years homecoming in exchange for this notebook."

I sat up against my headboard, Michael was still straddling my waist so it took me a minute to situate myself. I gave him a questioning look before taking the notebook from his hand. "What is it?" I asked, meeting his gaze. Michael was nervously biting at his bottom lip.

"A story." He said, "A story about you, about us." He clarified.

"You wrote a story about us?" I ran my fingers delicately across the first page. It was worn and it read 'For the boy next door'. I wanted to cry, I wanted to pull Michael in for a kiss but I sat still, I didn't take my eyes off the notebook in front of me. I couldn't. Endless pages written about me, about our friendship, our relationship. Michael always told me he'd write me a book one day, but I didn't think he was serious, we were only five when he first told me that.

"I'm speechless, Michael."

"I'm taking that as a yes for homecoming?"

I laughed lightly, nodding my head in response. "Of course it is you doofus."

"Just checking, it would be embarrassing to show up here on homecoming night and you're not ready to leave." Michael watched my run my fingers delicately across the pages and pressed his lips to my forehead. "I take it you like the book?"

"I can't wait to read it." I said sincerely.

"Only the best for you," Michael whispered against my skin. "Only the best for the boy next door."
