Chase's POV

The control room was filled with the low hum of monitors and the quiet murmur of the team. My heart raced as I watched Skye's live feed on the main screen. She had been undercover for hours, and so far, everything seemed fine—until it wasn't.

Her voice crackled through the comms, urgent and filled with fear. "Chase! I need help!"

I shot up from my seat, my heart pounding against my chest. "We need to move, now! She's in danger!" Without thinking, I bolted for the door.

But Ryder's voice cut through the air, calm but firm. "Chase, wait."

I spun around, my eyes wide with disbelief. "Wait? We don't have time to wait! She's in trouble, Ryder!"

Ryder stood his ground, his gaze steady. "I know, but if we go in now, we could blow the entire operation. We need to think this through."

A wave of frustration crashed over me. "Are you serious? This isn't just some mission! It's Skye out there! I can't sit here and do nothing while she's in danger!"

Marshall and the others exchanged uneasy glances, but they all stayed silent, looking to Ryder for direction.

"Chase, I understand how you feel," Ryder said, his voice softer now. "But if we act recklessly, we could make things worse. We can't risk it."

I felt like the walls were closing in. My muscles tensed as a helpless fury rose within me. "You don't get it, Ryder!" I shouted, my voice cracking. "I can't lose her!"

Ryder's eyes softened, but his decision was clear. "We're not losing her, Chase. We just need to stay calm and wait for the right moment."

I couldn't hear it anymore. My vision blurred as I stormed out of the control room, ignoring the concerned glances from my friends.

Outside, I paced back and forth, my chest heaving with every breath. My mind raced with all the worst-case scenarios. What if they hurt her? What if I'm too late? The thoughts clawed at me, tearing me apart from the inside.

Before I knew it, I was against the wall, sliding down to the floor, my head in my paws. I tried to hold back, but the tears came anyway, hot and heavy. I couldn't stop them. I couldn't breathe. I felt so powerless. I should be out there, saving her, but instead, I was stuck here, useless.

"Chase..."

I barely registered the voice until I felt a familiar paw on my shoulder. I looked up to see Marshall, his usual goofy smile replaced with a serious, determined expression.

"Marshall, I—I can't..." I started, my voice barely a whisper.

"You can," he cut in, kneeling down in front of me, his voice intense. "Listen, Chase, I know how much Skye means to you. We all do. But you can't lose it now. She needs you—we need you. If you fall apart, who's going to lead the rescue?"

I shook my head, wiping my eyes. "But what if something happens to her, Marshall? What if I'm too late?"

He grabbed my shoulders, shaking me slightly, his eyes locked on mine. "You won't be too late. You're Chase—the best pup we've got! And if anyone's going to get Skye back, it's you."

His words were like a lifeline, pulling me out of the storm raging inside me. I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself.

"Look, I get it. You're scared. We're all scared," Marshall continued, his voice unwavering. "But you're not alone in this. We're a team, and when the time comes, we're going to get her back. Together."

I stared at him for a moment, the intensity of his words sinking in. Slowly, I nodded, feeling a flicker of strength returning. "You're right," I muttered, standing up. "I need to be ready... for her."

Marshall smiled now, a softer, supportive one. "That's the Chase I know. And when this is over, she'll be right there, safe—because of you."

Skye's POV

I groaned as I slowly regained consciousness, my head throbbing. Everything was blurry at first, but as my eyes adjusted, the cold, metallic smell of the room hit me. Panic surged through me as I realized I wasn't in Adventure Bay anymore.

I blinked hard, forcing my vision to clear. Around me were rows of cages—small, dark, and cramped. Inside each one were pups, their fur dirty and matted, their eyes wide with fear. I gasped, my heart sinking. These were the missing pups. We'd been looking for them for so long... and now, I was trapped here with them.

I need to stay calm, I reminded myself, even though my body was trembling. I glanced down at my collar, relief flooding through me for a second. At least I still had my communication system. If I could just let Chase and the others know where I was, they could get here in time.

I lowered my voice to a whisper. "Control room, come in. It's Skye. I'm inside a facility... and the missing pups are here. They're all in cages. I think... I think I'm in one of their holding cells."

I waited, but the room remained eerily quiet except for the soft whimpering of the pups. No response. My pulse quickened as I checked the collar, realizing something wasn't right. I tried adjusting the settings, fumbling with the small buttons. My paws felt shaky, but I had to get the message through.

"Chase, Ryder, anyone! I need backup. They've got the pups and—"

Suddenly, the screen on my collar went dark. I stared at it, confused. I pressed a few buttons, trying to get it back on, but nothing happened.

"No, no, no..." I muttered under my breath, panic creeping into my voice. What did I just do?

I had shut off the collar & the GPS signal without realizing it. Now, I was completely off the grid, and they had no idea where I was.

I tried to keep my breathing steady, but the weight of the situation was starting to crush me. Without the GPS, Chase and the team wouldn't be able to track me. I was truly alone in this.

I glanced around the room, my gaze settling on the rows of cages again. The pups were watching me with wide, frightened eyes. Some of them looked so weak, like they hadn't eaten in days. I had to do something—and fast.

But without my GPS, it would be a gamble. I pressed my paw against my collar again, praying that somehow, they could still hear me. "Chase... if you can hear this, I need you. Please, I'm in trouble."

I didn't know if the message would get through, but I had no other choice. I couldn't leave these pups behind. There had to be a way out of here. But first, I needed to find a way to turn the GPS back on... or find another way to signal the team.

I took a deep breath and scanned the room again, this time with sharper focus. There were security cameras in the corners, watching my every move. And behind one of the cages, I noticed something—an air vent, just big enough for me to crawl through if I could open it.

I stood up, shaking off the fear that gripped me. I had to stay strong—for the pups, for the team, and for Chase. I wasn't giving up yet. I wouldn't.
