Chase's POV

As we neared the facility, the tension in the air was palpable. The SWAT team had set up a mobile command centre nearby, and a helicopter hovered out of sight, waiting for the signal. The kidnappers had no idea we were closing in, and that gave us a slim advantage. But it didn't make the situation any less nerve-wracking. My heart pounded, thoughts racing back to Skye. Was she hurt? Was she scared? I couldn't bear the thought of anything happening to her.

The SWAT team leader approached me, and we exchanged nods as we finalized the plan. I would be leading the Bravo team inside the facility—a group made up of five SWAT officers, two SWAT dogs, and myself. Meanwhile, the rest of the PAW Patrol and SWAT team, designated as Charlie team, would secure the perimeter from the helicopter, ensuring no one escaped.

Before we began, I took a deep breath, running over the plan again in my mind. But all I could think about was Skye. I couldn't shake the image of her trapped, scared, waiting for us to come. Failure wasn't an option. I had to find her. I had to save her.

"Skye, just hold on," I muttered to myself, steeling my resolve.

The Bravo team was ready. We piled into the SWAT 6x6, the rumble of the engine barely audible over the sound of my heart thudding in my ears. My focus was razor-sharp, but the thought of losing her gnawed at me. This operation had to go perfectly.

As we approached the facility, Charlie team descended from the helicopter, landing swiftly and quietly to secure the outside. The perimeter was locked down.

"Bravo team, moving in," I whispered into the comms as we rolled up to the entrance.

I led the Bravo team to the door, signaling to one of the SWAT officers to place the breaching charge on the metal frame. With a nod, he swiftly attached the charge, and we took cover behind the nearby wall. Boom! The charge exploded, sending the door flying off its hinges. We moved in immediately, sweeping every corner, every shadow, weapons drawn, senses heightened.

But something wasn't right.

Room after room, empty.

The facility was completely deserted.

I felt a cold knot tighten in my chest. The cages, the equipment—everything was gone. My worst fears crashed over me. They had moved her. They had moved all of them.

I swallowed hard, my thoughts racing. Skye, where are you?

Chase's POV

As I trudged back to the lookout, my heart felt heavier with each step. The failed rescue operation weighed on me like a stone, crushing my spirit. I had let Skye down. I had let my team down. I had promised to protect them, to be their shield against the darkness, yet I had returned empty-handed.

The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a pale light over Adventure Bay, but I felt like I was walking through shadows. The laughter of my friends faded into the background as I distanced myself from the others, finding solace in solitude. I couldn't bear to see their faces, their concern—because deep down, I knew that I had failed them. My thoughts spiraled into dark places, where self-doubt and guilt festered.

What if I hadn't hesitated? What if I had acted sooner? My mind replayed the moments of the mission, the flashes of Skye's scared eyes and the emptiness of that facility. I had sworn to bring her back, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I had betrayed her trust.

"Chase?" A familiar voice broke through my spiraling thoughts. Marshall stood beside me, his expression a mixture of concern and determination. "You okay?"

I shook my head, forcing a smile that didn't quite reach my eyes. "Just... thinking," I mumbled, trying to mask my heartache.

Marshall stepped closer, his presence a comforting reminder that I wasn't alone. "You did everything you could, Chase. We all did. Sometimes things don't go as planned, and that's not your fault."
